Boxing News: Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr Ends In Draw, Huge Heavyweight Win For Joe Joyce

There was a superb weekend of boxing action for fans to take in this past weekend. At the top of the card was a hugely anticipated return to the ring for Mike Tyson, as he took on Roy Jones Jr.

The fight was something that a lot of pure boxing fans labelled as a showbiz event rather than a boxing event, but many were still thrilled to see the former heavyweight champion back in the ring this past weekend.

Boxing News: Tyson/Jones Jr Ends In Draw

All eyes were on the Staples Center on Saturday night, as a host of celebrity faces were in attendance to see Mike Tyson step into a boxing ring for the first time in 15 years. There were glimpses of the old magic that Iron Mike had during his prime, but the 54-year-old still managed to put on a show for those watching around the world. Snoop Dogg was among the celebrity commentators for the event, but there were a number of former boxing greats that were full of praise for the fight itself.

Among those was Tyson’s former rival Lennox Lewis. In the end, the fight was ruled as a draw. Tyson did land a couple of good left hooks during the contest and many social media users believed that he had done enough to win the contest. Jones Jr was pleased with the draw, while Tyson said that the fight wasn’t about championships but rather using their platform to help others around the world.

Boxing News: Joyce Stuns Dubois In Heavyweight Upset

It could be argued that the most significant boxing action over the weekend took place in London on Saturday night, as two highly regarded undefeated boxers squared off. Daniel Dubois is seen by most as a potential world champion, but he was shocked in the tenth round of the contest. Dubois took a knee after being taken back by a jab by Joe Joyce, and the referee stopped the fight.

Many questioned whether Dubois had the heart to be in such a big fight, as some questioned his will to win. However, he was ahead on the majority of the scorecards at the time, but an injury to his left eye appeared too much to overcome. Afterwards it was revealed that he has suffered a fractured eye socket. Promoter Frank Warren revealed that Dubois will be back, but Joyce will now be looking forward to a huge potential title fight in 2021 against either Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury.
