On November 29th New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented Best of the Super Juniors 27 (BOSJ 27) from the legendary Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan in front of 696 fans. COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) safety restrictions were responsible for the reduced crowd size, yet the crowd was enthusiastic throughout the event.
The second series match of the event saw Suzuki-Gun member El Desperado and Douki go to battle in an important match for the former. Desperado came into the match after defeating CHAOS member Sho on November 25th. On the same night, Douki dropped the fall to “Way to the Grand Master” Master Wato.
It was a swing match for Desperado, who could keep pace with the top of the BOSJ 27 table if he were able to capture the victory over his unit mate. However, the much improved Douki, who has seen his form grow exponentially over the past 18 months was able to give Desperado all that he could handle.
With neither wrestler holding back, the match became pretty physical with both attempting to gain a key two points. Douki especially attempted to send a message to his unit mate, who is the more accomplished out of the two.
Desperado gained the submission fall at the 15 minutes and 23 seconds mark with his Numerous Dos technique. The win moved him to (4-2) [8 points], while the loss dropped Douki to (0-6) [0 points]. Desperado positioned himself quite well with the victory, allowing himself the opportunity to go on a run and qualify for his first trophy in NJPW.
Douki went on to face NJPW Noge Dojo Young Lion Yuya Uemura on December 2nd, while went on to face reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion and Bullet Club member “Bone Soldier” Taiji Ishimori on the same night.
A victory for Despardo over Ishimori would secure him as a favorite to advantage to the finals of BOSJ 27.
