On November 30th, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented World Tag League 2020 (WTL 2020) from the legendary Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan in front of 557 fans. COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) safety restrictions were responsible for the reduced crowd size, yet the crowd was present during key parts of the night.
The headline series match of the event saw the Bullet Club team of former six-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Guerillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga/Tanga Loa) [GOD] take on the Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) team of Sanada/”The Dragon” Shingo Takagi.
GOD came into the match after dropping the fall to the CHAOS team of two-thirds of the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions Hirooki Goto/Yoshi-Hashi on November 28th, while the LIJ team suffered the same fate against FinJuice (Juice Robinson/David Finlay) on the same night.
GOD needed a win to keep realistic hope for a WTL 2020 Finals birth alive, and the decorated tag team wrestled this match knowing what was at stake. However, Sanada and Shingo showed their chemistry as a tag team, battling the former six-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions throughout the contest.
Jado’s interference helped the Bullet Club team gain precious seconds in what was a competitive match between two good teams. However, Tama was able to gain the fall over Sanada at the 15 minutes and 28 seconds mark after using his Gun Stun Cutter technique.
The victory moved GOD to (4-3) [8 points], while the loss dropped Sanada/Shingo to (4-3) [8 points]. GOD would go on to face the Empire team of Jeff Cobb/Great-O-Khan on December 4th, while Sanada/Shingo faced HenarAce (Hiroshi Tanahashi/Toa Henare) on the same night.
With the result, GOD placed themselves in a position where they could win their remaining WTL 2020 campaign matches and advances to the tournament finals.
