On November 24th New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented World Tag League 2020 (WTL 2020) from the Big Palette Fukushima in Fukushima, Japan in front of 469 fans. COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) was responsible for the reduced crowd size, spreading the fans throughout, but the audience remained lively during key moments.
The marquee series match of the event saw the Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) team of former two-time IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, WTL 2017 and WTL 2018 winner Sanada and “The Dragon” Shingo Takagi against two-thirds of the reigning NEVER 6-Man Tag Team Champions and CHAOS members Hirooki Goto and Yoshi-Hashi.
Sanada/Shingo came into the match after defeating the Bullet Club tandem of “Rogue General” Bad Luck Fale and “Crown Jewel” Chase Owens on November 22nd, while Goto/Yoshi-Hashi gained the fall over HenarAce (Hiroshi Tanahashi/Toa Henare) on the same night.
Both teams were in a solid position coming into the match with Sanada/Shingo sitting at (3-1) [6 points] and had the opportunity to sit alone at the top of the table with a victory. However, Goto/Yoshi-Hashi presented a stiff challenge for the LIJ team, showing their development as a team over recent months.
Yet, Sanada was able to gain the submission fall with his Skull End technique at the 17 minutes and 20 seconds mark over Yoshi-Hashi. Sanada/Shingo moved to (4-1) [8 points] and took possession of sole first place on top of the WTL 2020 table. The loss dropped Goto/Yoshi-Hashi to (2-3) [4 points], making their path to a finals slot difficult.
The CHAOS team went on to face Guerillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga/Tanga Loa) on November 28th, while Sanada/Shingo faced former IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions and WTL 2019 winners FinJuice (Juice Robinson/David Finlay) on the same night.
The team of Sanada and Shingo has proven to be a formidable duo that can defeat even top-shelf tag teams within NJPW.
