On November 29th New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) presented Best of the Super Juniors 27 (BOSJ 27) from the legendary Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan in front of 696 fans. COVID-19 (Coronavirus, 2019) safety restrictions were responsible for the reduced crowd size, yet the crowd was enthusiastic throughout the event.
The third series match of the event saw CHAOS member Sho take on “Way to the Grand Master” Master Wato. Sho came into the match after dropping the fall to Suzuki-Gun member El Desperado on November 25th, while Wato defeated Suzuki-Gun member Douki on the same night.
With a victory, Wato would put himself at the top of the BOSJ 27 table. Sho could cause a jumble at the top of the bracket if he could bring Wato to two losses.
The match saw the quickness and kicking ability of Wato take on the power and submission ability of Sho. Wato proved he could hang at the top of the Junior Heavyweight division, giving Sho a stiff challenge and absorbing his opponents’ physical offense.
Throughout the match, Wato received encouragement from his mentor four-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroyoshi Tenzan, who helped him prepare for the tournament. However, Sho would be able to gain the fall at the 12 minutes and 58 seconds mark with his Shock Arrow technique. The victory moved him to (4-2) [8 points] while the loss dropped Wato to (4-2) [8 points].
Sho would go on to face former three-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, BOSJ 25 (2018) winner, and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member “Time Bomb” Hiromu Takahashi on December 2nd. While on the same night Wato faced former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Bushi on the same night.
The victory for Sho put himself in a favorable position to make a finals push, while the loss for Wato removes him from an extremely favorable position.
