Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member and former three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion “Time Bomb” Hiromu Takahashi enters Best of the Super Juniors 27 (BOSJ 27) as one of the favorites. Hiromu managed to win BOSJ 25 (2018) and would love to win his second trophy within New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) to lock in a title challenge against reigning two-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Bullet Club member, “Bone Soldier” Taiji Ishimori at Wrestle Kingdom 15.
Hiromu was unable to retain the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship against Ishimori during Summer Struggle in Jingu on August 29, 2020. Despite the loss, Hiromu remains one of the favorites to win BOSJ 27 along with Ishimori, Sho, and Robbie Eagles.
Hiromu is the third-largest merchandise seller in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) behind IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Champion’ and LIJ leader Tetsuya Naito and former five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and CHAOS member “Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada, according to journalist Fumi Saito.
With former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Ryu Lee not able to compete in BOSJ 27 due to a death in his family, Hiromu may have the best inside track to making an appearance in the BOSJ 27 finals, as his recent form nearly led him to become ‘Double Champion’ at Sengoku Lord on July 25, 2020 along with holding the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship.
Hiromu’s matches to look out for are against Ishimori (November 15th), El Desperado (November 18th), Bushi (November 20th), Eagles (November 29th), and Sho (December 2nd).
A victory for Hiromu will solidify his position as ‘Ace’ of the NJPW junior heavyweight division and set up a likely rematch against Ishimori at Wrestle Kingdom 15. However, if Hiromu is unable to capture the BOSJ 27 trophy, his path forward becomes a little more difficult as many will have title opportunity claims ahead of him.
