This past Sunday, Tommaso Ciampa got his ass kicked by Timothy Thatcher, but managed to come out with a win. Cameron Grimes on the other hand… he doesn’t want to talk about Takeover, it didn’t happen as far as he is concerned.
Tonight is what matters, not those 12 minutes and 55 seconds with Dexter Lumis and the strap, but his match with Ciampa. If he wins this, nothing else matters and maybe he’ll be on his way to a title match!
Tommaso Ciampa Gets A Fan At Ringside
Ciampa would quickly grab a headlock on Grimes, take him to the mat and put knee to elbow. He’d maintain wrist control, and Grimes worked his way out. Timothy Thatcher came to ringside and grabbed a seat to look on, looking to also distract Ciampa.
Ciampa would be yelled at by Grimes, before Grimes started to look for some strikes before being shut down with a hard back elbow. Grimes slipped to the outside, and ran to Thatcher to catch his breath. He tried to come around Thatcher for a cheap shot and was blocked.
Ciampa would be thrown to the barricade, but stopped himself before throwing Grimes in instead. He didn’t get distracted by Thatcher for more than a second after Grimes was back in the ring, and that allowed Grimes to take control into the commercial break.
Through picture in picture, he’d see Grimes keep control of Ciampa, even blocking the Fairy Tale ending and hitting the swinging side slam. Thatcher just watched at ringside, as Grimes applied poorly done submissions in the ring, and had to beat Ciampa back down to the mat.
Grimes Doesn’t Take Full Advantage
Coming back from the break, Ciampa fought to his feet once again, but Grimes stayed on top until a boot to the face. Ciampa hit some running lariats, Grimes ended up in the corner for the running knee, and we’d get a close up of Thatcher’s ear, stitched up from a knee of Ciampas on Sunday.
Grimes narrowly avoided the Fairy Tale ending by crawling to the apron. He almost took Willows Bell, but got out and got a pinfall for two. Ciampa hit a running knee, Grimes stood tall and hit a jumping forearm, before they both crashed to the mat after a running Spanish Fly.
Grimes was first back to his feet and tried for the German Suplex, but didn’t get it. Nor did he get the Lawn Dart, Ciampa slipping off and pushing him into the corner. Grimes went up top and was shoved down.
At this time, Ciampa was attacked by a student of Thatchers, before they took a knee to the head before fleeing. Grimes failed to take advantage and took the Willows Bell, but it’s clear Thatcher & Ciampa aren’t done.
