Back in 2006, Edge had finally arrived in the main event of WWE. He was the first man to cash in Money in The Bank to take a WWE Championship, doing so to John Cena after a bloody Elimination Chamber match. The next night on Monday Night RAW, Edge & Lita were going to celebrate with a sex celebration in the ring.
It was a different time for sure, but this remains an iconic moment. However, it only went ahead because one man enjoyed the idea, that being Vince McMahon, as Lita herself tells it.
Edge, John Cena, & Lita Among Others Tried To Stop This Segment
On a recent Twitch stream, Lita would recall this uncomfortable moment. The idea was something Vince McMahon loved, and he was going to ensure it went down as planned. He was opposed by Edge, Lita, John Cena, and others backstage but that didn’t matter to Vince. The segment went as planned, and lives rent free in the minds of many young fans who were watching Monday Night RAW that night.
However, while Edge & Cena opposed it, it was Lita who raised concerns about being uncomfortable with the segment to Vince McMahon. His response was threatening to fire Lita if she didn’t go through with it. To save her job, she went ahead and put on a brave face to do the segment.
The Reason Why She Left WWE Soon After
Lita would be gone from WWE and all but retired from professional wrestling by the end of the year, with this segment being a strong reason for this exit. Knowing the mess around this segment, suddenly her being buried after her final WWE match at Survivor Series 2006 made a lot more sense. She lost to Mickie James, then Cryme Tyme came to the ring to sell off her personal items, including underwear.
The issue didn’t run too deep, as she did return for appearances down the line, including being Heath Slater in 2012 on the 1000th episode of RAW, being inducted in the Hall Of Fame in 2014, and even wrestling at the first ever all female WWE PPV. She teamed with longtime rival Trish Stratus to defeat Mickie James & Alicia Fox.
