Monday Night Raw’s Legends Night was full of surprises for the WWE Universe, with the most shocking of those coming at the end of the show. Drew McIntyre and Keith Lee had a highly enjoyable match to close the show, with McIntyre picking up a clean win over Lee after delivering a Claymore Kick.
However, the life of a champion is never without its twists and turns, and immediately after the match, the Scot was greeted by the returning Goldberg in the middle of the ring. It now looks likely that the reigning champion will be going one on one with Goldberg at the Royal Rumble PPV.
WWE News: Goldberg Stands Up To McIntyre
There was a feeling after the championship match that something was going to happen, but Goldberg challenging McIntyre came out of left field. Many expecting Goldberg to be challenging Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania, but a short feud with McIntyre could now be the plan. There isn’t likely to be many fans that will be over the moon to see Goldberg back, as McIntyre captured it perfectly when comparing the returning star to his dad.
The one factor that will make fans angry more than most is that the WWE could be on the verge of making the same mistake as they did 12 months ago. Back then, they took the title off The Fiend to give it to Goldberg, and fans will be wary that the same fate could await McIntyre. After a dominant 12 months, it would be the worst possible end for the Scottish champion, and something that his reign doesn’t deserve.
WWE News: Could There Be Reasons For Optimism?
It’s hard not to be completely downbeat about a potential match with Goldberg involved, since he is very rarely involved in classic encounters. However, one of the reasons for optimism comes from the fact that McIntyre is involved, and the Scot has rarely been involved in a bad match throughout his title reign to this point.
If anyone is capable of getting a tune out of the legend, then it could be the current champion. There could also be a good story to tell between the two if they can actually get it right. Goldberg as an outright heel and McIntyre as the baby face could work, but it doesn’t change the fact that fans would likely prefer to see McIntyre take on a more deserving star at the biggest show of the year.
