Beer City Bruiser was sick of losing matches, and sick of the happy nature of his tag team partner. It was about time he got serious, and serious he got when he smashed a beer bottle over the head of longtime friend Matt Taven. Now Bennett is on the lookout for payback, not only for what Bruiser did to Matt Taven, but also for Bruiser going after his injured ankle during the match between The OGK & The Bouncers.
Brusier has only been in 7 matches without Brian Milonas since May of 2018, making this a return to singles form of sort. Meanwhile, Bennett has been undefeated since making his return to ROH in late 2020, with a perfect 4-0 record.
Mike Bennett Fights Valiantly
As Bennett made his way down to the ring, Bruiser would attack Bennett and send him off the apron. A brawl on the outside would ensue, with Bennett being tossed over the barricade. Bennett fought back and jumped off with a forearm. He’d get back into the ring, and throw some chops and forearm strikes, before looking for a hip toss.
Bruiser would block with ease, before hitting a spinning neckbreaker. Bennett came back with a low superkick to the knee, and a running elbow to the back of the head. Bruiser would counter a kick from Bennett with a leg breaker, and start targeting that previously injured ankle.
Bennett would suffer from having his ankle slammed into the mat and hit with a Foot DDT. Bruiser applied a leg lock, but couldn’t maintain it. Bennett fired back with a spinning elbow, before hitting a sit out Uranage.
Beer City Bruiser Goes Too Far
Bruiser was sent into the corner for some weak looking chops, but a rolling elbow and low superkick set up a running dropkick. Bennett would be run back over by Bruiser and hit with a DDT for a near fall, Bennett barely getting his foot on the ropes.
Bruiser grabbed a beer bottle from under the ring, and gently smashed it on the corner post to make a shank. This prompted Matt Taven to leave commentary and referee Todd Sinclair to call for the bell. Taven was able to make the save with a superkick, before Bruiser decided to call it a night and move on.
