Stipe Miocic has a massive heavyweight defence at UFC 260 this weekend, as he comes up against his old rival. Francis Ngannou is his opponent this weekend, he the dominant heavyweight looks to defend his title for the third time.
That would be an achievement that he has already achieved once in his career, which he did with a decision victory against his opponent this weekend. The clash looks set to be one of the biggest events of the year for the UFC, but Miocic has teased that he may yet look to move outside of UFC to show that he is the most dominant heavyweight on the planet.
UFC News: Potential Move Into Boxing
His comments this week may have been a surprise to some, as the UFC star maybe should be more focused on the challenge at hand rather than speaking up a potential switch to the boxing ring. However, he revealed that he would be interested in taking on either Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua in a boxing match. He revealed that he didn’t think it would be fair for the fighters to step into the octagon, because the rules would have been a complete difference for them, and the technique is something that they would struggle to deal with.
It would certainly be a dream match that the world would love to see, but Miocic’s chances of getting a heavyweight title shot in boxing would be a tough one to achieve given that there are so many boxers already lining up for that chance.
UFC News: Another Potential UFC Star Flirting With Boxing
UFC stars tempted by the world of boxing is nothing new, as Conor McGregor’s bout with Floyd Mayweather has certainly opened that door for the biggest MMA stars to step foot in the ring with some of the most renowned boxers. Jorge Masvidal has spoken on numerous occasions about a boxing match, while former UFC star Cris Cyborg has also muted the possibility of taking on legendary Irish fighter Katie Taylor on numerous occasions.
There will be a professional boxing bow in the near future for Ben Askren, as he will be taking on Jake Paul in a boxing match in just a couple of weeks time. The bridge between MMA and boxing is now firmly open, which means a matter of how many stars make them jump rather of whether it will happen again.
