“The White Witch of NXT UK” is finally starting to come into her own. After mixing it up with the legendary Meiko Satomaru and coming up short, Isla Dawn has fallen back into her witchcraft, and is drumming up something dark within herself in the process.
We will see what that brings for her tonight in the ring, as she faces the promising rookie of Aleah James. James has had flashes of brilliance in NXT UK thus far, and is a strong future prospect, with her rise on the brand even being covered by the BBC recently. However, tonight might not be her breakout night.
Aleah James Meets An Aggressive Isla Dawn
Dawn started off by grabbing wrist control on James, who fought hard to gain control herself. James took Dawn to the mat, before Dawn easily took her back down. Dawn sent James to the corner, but got rolled up and hit with a dropkick when she rushed in.
James would get over eager and rush into Dawn, who kicked her upside the head with a roundhouse. Some aggressive shots to the head on the mat and a Shining Wizard style knee strike for a two count. James got a small package for a two count, before taking a knee to the back of the head and a backdrop driver.
Dawn locked in a butterfly lock on James and locked the leg in as well. James fought free, before hitting a springboard shotgun dropkick for a two count. She followed up with a springboard crossbody for a two count, and ran into a wheelbarrow drop from Dawn.
Kay Lee Ray Is Looking At A New Challenge
Dawn threw heavy strikes in the corner before another backdrop driver. A dragon suplex would end this one for Isla Dawn, who showed a new level of aggression tonight. She looked incredible here, like a future main event talent in the division. Her strikes were crisp, and suplexes tight.
After the match, Dawn met Kay Lee Ray backstage, who pointed out that if we saw Dawn wrestle like this earlier in NXT UK, she could have been in her position now. Dawn just stared Kay Lee Ray down, and the champion decided this wasn’t worth her time.
