When you ask for the best in the world to challenge you as a champion, sometimes you get your wish. Kay Lee Ray enters this one on a huge 551 day reign as NXT UK Women’s Champion, and has beaten all comers. However, now she faces one of the final bosses of professional wrestling in joshi legend, Meiko Satomura. If KLR can endure against Satomura, she is truly unbeatable.

    Meiko Satomura Wastes No Time

This is truly a main event anywhere in the world. Satomura & KLR locked up, and it was evenly matched. KLR accepted the test of strength from Satomura, only to be taken to the ground with a wrist lock after having the leg kicked out from underneath her. Satomura was unable to keep KLR grounded, and KLR grabbed the hammerlock before sending Satomura into the corner.

KLR would be hit with a back body drop, and fled to the outside, but Satomura held her ground in the middle of the ring. Satomura was ready to get back into the fight as soon as KLR was in reach, grabbing her arm and chopping her down with a flurry of kicks. A big double knee drop punished KLR, but also got the champion fired up. KLR nailed the dropkick on Satomura, but didn’t even get a one count on the pinfall.

Satomura was taken down with a snapmare, KLR rolling right into a kick but again couldn’t get anywhere on the pinfall. KLR took a kick to the side of the head from Satomura, who would apply an STF in the middle of the ring, but KLR made the 6ft crawl to break the hold. Satomura kicked KLR while she was down, but was hit with a facebuster into the Koji Clutch the moment KLR got vertical again.

Kay Lee Ray Wasn’t Champion For This Long By Mistake

Satomura was trapped in the middle of the ring, but tilted into a pinfall to break the hold. KLR went right for another submission, applying the abdominal stretch and taking some cheap shots as well. Satomura got back to her feet after breaking the hold, and nailing the spinning wheel kick to take KLR down. KLR fled to the corner, but took a series of mid-kicks.

Satomura missed a kick and KLR took control by tripping her and taking this one to the outside. She’d hit a DDT off the apron, dropping Satomura face first on the floor. KLR took a breather, before looking for the Gory Bomb onto the apron. Satomura fought free, and nailed the Death Valley Driver onto the apron instead. KLR got back in the ring at the nine count, not wanting to retain her title by being counted out.

Back in the ring, Satomura hit the DDT and cartwheel knee strike, dropping KLR before driving some knee strikes into the jaw. Satomura looked for the Saito Suplex, getting a near fall on KLR. She’d go for another Death Valley Driver in the ring, but KLR was deadweight. Instead Satomura hit the mid-kick, only for KLR to come back with the tornado DDT into the Koji-Clutch!

Fighting Until Their Last Dying Breath

Satomura once again tried to free herself by using a pinfall, but KLR held on this time, only for Satomura to get the bottom rope. KLR set up the Swanton Bomb, heading to the top rope but having her leg kicked and Satomura set up the Death Valley Driver in the middle of the ring for another near fall. Satomura went up top, KLR came in with a slap to the face and met her up in the high rent district.

KLR was left alone as Satomura slipped to the apron and kicked KLR in the face. Satomura went for the frog splash, but just met the knees of KLR instead. KLR nailed the Gory Bomb in the middle of the ring, but took too long to make the pinfall. Satomura was deadweight, but KLR got up top, missing the dive.

KLR was in position for Scorpio Rising, but blocked and went for another Gory Bomb, only for Satomura to counter into the sunset flip! Satomura was hit with a superkick, but came back with a pele kick before going for another Death Valley Driver. KLR countered with a roll up, set up another Gory Bomb from a powerbomb lift, and was able to defeat The Final Boss herself.

What. A. Match. Kay Lee Ray might have had her title reign inflated by the shutdown of NXT UK, but her quality of defenses makes it worth the hype. Meiko Satomura gave a classic performance here, nearly having Ray beat on numerous occasions, and giving her the hardest fight yet. They went move for move and hold for hold until that excellent finishing sequence. This was the best women’s match in NXT UK history hands down, and hopefully only their first encounter. Match Rating: 4.5/5 (**** ½)

After the bell, they’d hug it out. They already respected each other, but after this match that respect has grown tenfold. Who can defeat Kay Lee Ray? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
