The WWE has been in some internet news this week as it’s been reported that Vince McMahon isn’t happy with various WrestleMania 37 leaks.
To be fair, this has been reported by several outlets and it makes sense as we hear this every year.
We also have plenty of “leaks” that we’re fed to protect the WrestleMania card, so we take these reports with a grain of salt.
Let’s get to the nitty gritty before explaining why we’re not sold on these reports.
From wrestlenews.co (https://wrestlingnews.co/wwe-news/vince-mcmahon-upset-about-wwe-wrestlemania-main-event-plans-leaking-online/), a source said, “Yes, the story is accurate. Vince was upset when word got out that the main event [for WrestleMania] would be Edge and Roman. I think that was the moment when he decided to not clue in the wrestlers on future plans.”
Dave Meltzer reportedly broke the news first with his Wrestling Observer Newsletter prior to the Elimination Chamber.
Another match is that the Miz was slated for a tag team match, meaning he’ll be dropping the WWE Championship soon to work on that feud.
While McMahon’s frustration over the leaks is understandable, he really shouldn’t be surprised.
Everyone saw it coming
As much as we hate to say it, it was obvious Edge would face Roman Reigns through the storytelling. It was the one feud that the animosity between the characters could be felt.
The rest would’ve been fun, friendly, and respectful matches for Edge.
Plus, given they’re using the same theme and place, is it really surprising that Reigns would main event like he was expected to last year? The only difference is this year it’s Edge instead of Goldberg.
As for the Miz, the storytelling from the MITB contract quest on has been rough at best. Most have been begging for them to get rid of the MITB after this, and his winning it was, well, expected.
Oddly enough, the Miz’s wheeling and dealing current persona is eerily similar to Rohit Raju’s run as Impact Wrestling’s X-Division Champion.
Expect the storytelling with Rohit was far more entertaining, but we don’t blame the Miz for it. He’s been working his tail off and he definitely deserves a title run, but he’s just an interim.
His build up has been more Heyman-like (used car salesman), and his ability to hold onto the WWE Championship with Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, and Bobby Lashley chasing it were zilch, in our opinion.
So, him losing it before Mania so Lashley, McIntyre, and/or Sheamus can have a championship feud makes sense.
It comes down to storytelling, and we don’t think any amount leaks or non-leaks would’ve helped as it’s extremely predictable.
If these reports are true, it’ll be interesting to see how the wrestlers adapt to not knowing what to expect. It could also just be a way to motivate their talent to put in more effort.
There are plenty of possibilities and we’re curious to see what comes of these WrestleMania 37 leaks. Maybe there will be changes to the Universal Championship match or Miz’s run?
