The next major All Elite Wrestling event comes to fans on Wednesday, May 5th. This special episode of AEW will be host to the first ever Blood & Guts match. The two teams involved are The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, Jake Hager, Santana & Ortiz) & The Pinnacle (MJF, Shawn Spears, Wardlow, Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood).
This is a huge match, and will follow the classic format of WarGames. Unlike the recent NXT matches under the WarGames name, this one will be more like the ones from NWA & WCW past. This means a top on the cages, and you can only win by submission or surrender once everyone is in the cages. However, what makes this one unique is that it will very much be a one match show.
No Other Matches On The Card For AEW Blood & Guts
For the first time in AEW history, this will be the only match on this event. There will be interviews and hype packages to build this match up, but only the Blood & Guts match will take place on the May 5th episode of AEW Dynamite. We can assume this is due to the amount of time it will take to get the double cage set up, and having other matches on the event means that the cage needs to be set up later.
One match shows aren’t unheard of, with the most recent example likely being the 2 out of 3 Falls match between Sami Zayn & Samoa Joe in WWE NXT. This match will truly test the gas tank of whoever stars, which is making it likely that it will not by Chris Jericho for The Inner Circle, and will be FTR for The Pinnacle.
For those unaware, back in their days in WWE, FTR would regularly work 40+ minute matches on house shows with teams like Chad Gable & Bobby Roode to great fanfare. Sadly, they never got that chance on WWE TV, but this match could be their chance. It will be interesting to see how this works out for AEW, but it’s adding to the hype of this event.
