The main event of Impact Wrestling: Rebellion was a champion vs. champion match between Kenny Omega & Rich Swann. AEW World Champion vs. Impact World Champion in a winner takes all situation, with Kenny Omega coming out on top and leaving with his third world championship over his shoulder. This match was elevated due to strong hype, and a special guest commentator. Mauro Ranallo returned to the desk, and it might have been the start of his proper return to professional wrestling.
Mauro Ranallo Claims That This Re-Ignited His Passion For Professional Wrestling
Since his exit from WWE NXT in 2020, we haven’t heard Ranallo call any wrestling matches until Swann vs. Omega. He’s been calling MMA & Boxing fights, but this was his return to professional wrestling. Calling NXT weekly had him a bit more than drained by the end, but things are looking better after calling the Rebellion main event. While speaking about it on the Maurologue podcast, he’d say the following.
“I’ve got to tell you, I had a blast working with D-Lo Brown and Matt Striker and what a match between AEW Champion Kenny Omega and Unified IMPACT belt-holder Rich Swann in a title-for-title mega main event. A big thank you to my friend Scott D’Amore and all the people in IMPACT Wrestling crew and locker room for making me feel so welcome. It reminded me of, honestly, when I started my career at 16. Yeah, last night reignited my passion for professional wrestling. Very chill, relaxed atmosphere – a lot of support, a lot of respect, and a lot of hungry and determined roster comprising some decorated vets and some very talented up-and-comers.”
He’d go on to mention that he hopes to get to do it again, leaving the door open for him calling more big matches for Impact Wrestling, or even All Elite Wrestling.
