It’s time for the always fun Casino Battle Royale. Whoever wins will have earned a shot at the AEW World Championship, which will be held by either Kenny Omega, PAC or Orange Cassidy by the time the night is through. We know all but one entrant, as they always keep a wildcard in their back pocket. The favorite to win outside of that wildcard entrant is Christian Cage, but anything can happen in a battle royale!

    Fast Paced Battle Royale Action

The first five men in were the men who drew the clubs. Christian Cage led the charge, soaking in his first time wrestling in front of a live crowd in years. Matt Sydal, Powerhouse Hobbs, Dustin Rhodes, and Max Caster of The Acclaimed. Caster would drop a freestyle on everyone before hitting the ring, and suddenly was the target of everyone.

Rhodes went after Caster and nearly got him out, as Hobbs was busy with Christian & Sydal. Caster avoided elimination, before Sydal cut him down with kicks and ended up in the same situation. Sydal got thrown out by Caster, the first of many, and Hobbs almost joined him as Rhodes went after him.

Caster went after Christian next, and this led to him being thrown out to the ramp and falling to the floor before the countdown ended. Next group in was the diamonds, including Matt Hardy who looked to jump Preston Vance, but failed. Nick Comoroto made the way to Dustin Rhodes, and Serpentico was drug to the ring and thrown in by Luther.

Serpentico was quickly out by Vance, before Vance matched up with Comoroto before hitting a powerslam. Comroto wouldn’t go out to the lariats, but was cut down with a spear. Vance was thrown over the top rope, and Rhodes sent Comoroto out. Comoroto got Rhodes in the face with a cowbell, and Hobbs threw him out.

Hardy Family Office Rule The Ring

The Hearts would make their way to the ring, and both Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison were in this group, who took down Hardy early. Colt Cabana had Brodie Lee’s old ring jacket for his entrance, and some elbows for Hardy. Anthony Bowens and Penta El Zero Meido rounded out the group, and Penta threw strikes at everyone. He’d waste time taunting and took him out with a shot to the back.

Cabana was taken out by Isiah Kassidy who is just helping Hardy to win, and The Blondes took Bowens out. Hardy took out Griff Garrison, and Pillman Jr. no longer had an ally. Penta went after Hardy, as the clock came down. Pillman got a big chant before the spades were drawn.

Jungle Boy led the charge with Tarzan Boy blaring to everyone’s delight, and he faced off with Penta only to take two sling blades. Marq Quen joined Kassidy in the ring and hit Gin & Juice on Pillman who was thrown out. Aaron Solow and Evil Uno hit the ring, with Lee Johnson ending the group.

Johnson & Solow fought on the apron, and both men found the floor quickly. Uno hit a flatliner on Kassidy but didn’t try to throw him out and was taken out by Penta. Jungle Boy took Penta out as Hobbs came back to life alongside Christian. Hobbs would flaunt his power, but Christian outsmarted him and got him over the top rope. He’d lock eyes with an old rival in Hardy, who was shielded by Private Party.

The Wildcard Is Lio Rush, Winner Is Jungle Boy

Making his AEW debut is Lio Rush in the wildcard spot, and he’d explode onto Private Party. A poison rana and some fast dodges would show why AEW wanted him. No one could catch him and even when Hardy did, he took a springboard stunner. Rush countered Silly String but got taken out by Hardy ending his chances.

This was all HFO at this point, as Hardy hit the Side Effect on Jungle Boy. He’d fire back with a lariat and Quen was sent to the apron. Silly String was countered again, and the Private Party was gone. Hardy was alone with Christian and Jungle Boy, and Hardy tried to recruit Christian and was thrown out.

Either Christian or Jungle Boy is getting a title shot, and Jungle Boy took the reverse DDT before nearly being thrown out. They’d battle on the apron, but even shoving Jungle Boy into the pole didn’t get him out. Jungle Boy dumped Christian out, and he’s ready to go for the top prize.

A very fun and chaotic battle royale like usual, but nothing to write home about. Lio Rush had a good debut, and we got to see how crowds react to the AEW roster. Lots of stories kept moving, and it got us to the main event Jungle Boy. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
