Last night at the Impact Wrestling special, Under Siege, we saw a six way main event to decide the next challenger for Kenny Omega’s Impact Wrestling Championship. In the end, Moose was the one to walk away with the win over Sami Callihan, Matt Cardona, Chris Sabin, Chris Bey and Trey Miguel.
Going into this match, it seemed like Callihan was the favorite to win due to on-going issues with Omega, but The Good Brothers helped to shut him down. Now without a clear path to
get revenge on Omega in Impact Wrestling, is it time for Sami Callihan to take the fight to AEW?
Eddie Kingston & Jon Moxley Are Old Friends, And Have A Brewing Title Match
Right now in AEW, The Young Bucks are dominant as AEW World Tag Team Champions. They’ve recently retired SCU as a tag team, and moved their reign past 190 days. On the next episode of AEW Dynamite, they have their sixth title defense as they take on Varsity Blondes. There is very little chance of Pillman Jr. & Griff Garrison winning the titles on this night, but The Young Bucks are just ducking their truly dangerous challengers in Eddie Kingston & Jon Moxley.
Kingston & Moxley have been consistently the target of The Elite as of late, and as they win more and more tag team matches? It’s clear they could be up for the title shot come Double or Nothing. While Moxley & Kingston are a strong tag team, they lack the chemistry of The Young Bucks. It could take an extra element involved to push them over the edge.
Sami Callihan Could Be That Extra Element
And that’s where Sami Callihan enters the picture. Back in their time together in CZW, Callihan was allied with Jon Moxley in Switchblade Conspiracy, and Callihan has clashed with Kingston many times on the indies. These three men know each other well, and have a common goal and shutting The Elite down.
Add in that Callihan was one of the first men to show interest in showing up in AEW when Don Callis opened the door between Impact & AEW, and that AEW always likes to have a major debut on their PPV events? It’s easy to slot Sami Callihan onto this card as that debut. The pieces all fall together quite nicely in the end.
