It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that right now, we’re seeing the best Roman Reigns there has ever been in WWE. His current reign as WWE Universal Champion has brought the absolute best out of him, and his opponents. Kevin Owens, Jey Uso, and Daniel Bryan have all had incredible matches with Reigns, but none were able to take him down. However, tonight is his biggest test yet. Cesaro is finally at the top of the card after taking out Seth Rollins at Wrestlemania 37. He finally has a one on one chance to become a world champion in WWE, and nothing might be able to stop him from achieving this tonight.

    Cesaro Suffers An Early Injury

They’d lock up to start this match, showing they’re equally matched in power. Cesaro grabbed an armbar, before Reigns was able to lock in a headlock. He’d get shoved off and run Reigns down with a shoulder tackle. Cesaro would drop Reigns in response, before getting two quick near falls early on.

Reigns slipped outside and took his time to regroup, and Cesaro remained in control when he got back to it. He’d be driven into the corner before breaking free and hitting the springboard uppercut. Cesaro nailed a spinebuster and set up the swing, but Reigns crawled to the ropes. Reigns chucked Cesaro out of the ring, but hurt his arm on the way down as he landed awkwardly.

Cesaro got back in and hit some uppercuts, but was grimacing in pain. Reigns took advantage and threw him right into the ring post. Cesaro tumbled to the outside, where Reigns slammed him into the announce table. Back in the ring, Cesaro would attempt to suplex Reigns, but got suplexed himself.

Reigns applied a cravat to take Cesaro down to the mat, wearing him down. Cesaro was able to shove Reigns off, but took a leaping lariat to get a one count. A Samoan Drop got a two count, after Cesaro again landed on the hurt shoulder. Reigns set up the superman punch, but Cesaro dodged and nailed a Very European Uppercut.

Cesaro nailed uppercut after uppercut, before nailing a big boot for a two count. He’d apply the Sharpshooter, but Reigns was easily able to get to the ropes. Reigns slipped to the outside, and Cesaro nailed a corkscrew plancha to the outside. Cesaro nailed a running uppercut, and sent Reigns into the ring, before crashing in with a crossbody.

    A Brutal Main Event Battle

Cesaro would look to suplex Reigns into the ring after he fled to the apron, before having to slam him into the post. Reigns again fought the hold off, before grabbing the hurt arm, kicking Cesaro in the face and bending the arm as Cesaro hung over the turnbuckle. He’d follow up with the Drive-By kick to send Cesaro shoulder first into the corner.

Reigns would call you Daniel Bryan as he nailed some hard armbreakers on Cesaro, before taking a headbutt to the back of the head. An uppercut sent him off the ropes, but he came back with a lariat. Some knee strikes in the corner punished Cesaro, before he was sent off the rope and nailed with a big boot.

The referee would check on Cesaro as Reigns mocked him, and reminded him that he doesn’t belong here. Cesaro came back with a back elbow and an uppercut, but Reigns laughed it off. A discuss lariat dropped Reigns, but did just as much damage to Cesaro. Reigns would crawl to the apron, and finally get suplexed in for a near fall.

Cesaro nailed a jumping double stomp before looking for the neutralizer, only for Reigns to apply a deep Fujiwara Armbar. He’d need to let the hold go as Cesaro got the ropes, but countered a springboard uppercut with a superman punch.

Roman Reigns Refuses To Give Up His Gold

Reigns set up the spear, but ran into an uppercut. He couldn’t get the Very European Uppercut, and Reigns quickly applied the Guillotine Choke. Cesaro countered out with a spinebuster before looking for the sharpshooter. While Reigns would get near the ropes, Cesaro moved into a crossface.

Reigns used his head to break the crossface by attacking the injured arm, before pummelling Cesaro with forearm shots. He’d nail a sitout powerbomb, and Cesaro was able to kick out at two. Despite all the damage, despite this match having already gone 20 minutes, Cesaro was still in this.

Reigns got back on top of Cesaro and went for some forearm shots, and would block and toss reigns. He’d be met with a jumping forearm, before Reigns floated right into the Guillotine Choke. Cesaro was able to break it with another spinebuster, before Reigns locked it back in. Reigns would do everything to keep this hold applied, and he was able to force a stoppage, as Cesaro could no longer defend himself.

Cesaro either injured his arm at the start of this match, or could sell snow to a Canadian in February. This was one of the best matches of his career, and same goes for Reigns. Reigns pulled out new tricks to focus on the hurt limb, showing some of his best technical wrestling yet. Cesaro lost tonight, but proved he could hang on a main event level. Match Rating: 4.5/5 (**** 1/2)

Following the match, Cesaro would be attacked by Jey Uso and Seth Rollins, adding insult to injury. A chair was wrapped around the bad arm of Cesaro by Rollins, who slammed it off the turnbuckle. Is Seth Rollins aligned with Roman Reigns? What will it take to defeat Roman Reigns as Universal Champion? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
