It’s time to kick off Survival of the Fittest 2021! 12 men who have never held the ROH World Championship will fight it over the next month to see who will qualify for the six way elimination match for a shot at the ROH World Championship. Starting the tournament off with a bang is former teammates Rey Horus & Flamita. Just a few short months ago they were the ROH Six Man Tag Team Champions, and now it’s time to see them clash one on one. These are two of the top luchadors in wrestling today, and they’re about to show just why that’s the case.
Enter Demonic Flamita
After a new entrance that felt like the FMV from a PsOne game, we’d see the debut of Demonic Flamita. Horus would extend the hand for Code of Honor, and was denied, Flamita instead slapping his hand away. They’d lock up, and Horus was able to drive Flamita into the corner and allowed a clean break.
Flamita would do the same moments later before taking a cheap shot and stomp him into the mat. Horus would hit some forearm shots before hitting a twisting body scissor off the middle rope to take Flamita down. Flamita sent Horus to the apron and ran him through with a vicious spear to the ground.
Horus was thrown into the barricades, before Flamita pulled him into the ring to break the count. Flamita grabbed a steel chair and nailed Horus with it, but referee Todd Sinclair didn’t want to throw this match out. Horus took a seat in the chair as Flamita looked to set up a moonsault, only to yank Flamita down hard on the apron and hit a dive over the top rope.
Rey Horus Was Unable To Best His Old Ally
Flamita lured Horus back out of the ring and nailed Flam Fly on the outside, before setting up a frog splash in the ring. Horus was able to kick out at two, but Flamita was in firm control. Flamita would drive Horus hard into the corner before being caught with a Code Red for a two count.
Horus was faked out and punched in the jaw, before also taking a superkick to the back of the head. A slingshot DDT planted Horus, but a lazy cover from Flamita only got him a two count. Wanting to keep the punishment coming, he’d send Horus to the apron and suplex him back into the ring.
Horus would look to take Flamita off the top rope with the waistlock driver but was countered, but a big swinging DDT in the middle of the ring only got a two count. Flamita would hit the ropes to have Horus lose his footing, before hitting a Muscle Buster lift Gordbuster and superkick for the win.
This match had some rough moments in it’s pacing, but was a great showcase of a freshly turned Flamita. He had a mean streak to his movements, while Horus played the babyface role wonderfully. A fine way to kick a tournament off. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
