Presently in Ring of Honor (ROH), we are seeing a large focus placed on factions, with one of the top groups being The Foundation. They held three of the championships in ROH following the 19th Anniversary. But Tony Deppen of VLNCE UNLTD shocked everyone; perhaps even himself, when he beat Tracy Williams for the TV Championship. Tonight, Deppen is backed by Brody King, Chris Dickinson and Homicide to take on Williams, Jonathan Gresham, Rhett Titus & Jay Lethal in eight man tag team action.
An Absolute War From Two Factions
There would be the Code of Honor in this match between these two factions, but the handshake almost turned into an all out brawl. Williams wanted to start up where he left off with Deppen, and got his wish. They’d get right to firing off heavy strikes, wasting zero time getting this one started. Deppen hit a knee strike to the head before having a lariat countered into takedown.
Williams would dump Deppen with a suplex, and Homicide tagged into the match. Lethal wanted a tag, and this was their first meeting since 2012… but Homicide tagged out to Dickinson instead. They’d lock up and Lethal was able to grab an armbar and was able to drive him to the ropes. Lethal was nailed with a forearm strike, before chopping Dickinson who laughed them off.
Dickinson dodged Lethal Combination, but missed the PK and took a dropkick sending him outside. Homicide would nearly incite a brawl, but no one is looking to cross referee Todd Sinclair who is the only man who could keep this one steady. Gresham got a tag, and would square up with Homicide.
Homicide was getting under the skin of Lethal, but Titus looked to keep him grounded. Gresham would take Homicide down and jawjack with him, and pissed off the former ROH World Champion. An elbow drop and some straight punches to the face would punish Gresham, before Homicide bent the fingers back.
Gresham got a tag to Titus, and Homicide would take a running splash before a scoop slam. Titus regained control, and tagged in Williams to keep it. Homicide was getting isolated by The Foundation, but a deep eye rake let him sneak in a tag to Brody King.
VLNCE UNTLD Are Too Much For The Foundation
King came in and instantly changed the mood of this match with a clubbing lariat to Gresham before taking everyone in The Foundation off the apron. Deppen & Dickinson got in on the fun of beating down Gresham, and Dickinson got a two count off a running powerslam. Homicide couldn’t get a bodyslam himself after the damage to the back, and a Tornado DDT would be countered as well.
Gresham got a suplex and tagged in Titus, as Homicide tagged in King. King would absorb a lariat and a dropkick from Titus, before Dickinson came in and was caught with a powerslam. Deppen tried next but a DDT was countered into a belly to belly suplex. Titus would be firing up like we’ve rarely seen, and two running boots dropped King.
He’d go up top and nail a knee drop to the spine, but still only manage a two count. Lethal tagged in and worked with Titus to break King down even more. Williams got in next, and they’d finally work to take King up, and a hydraulic dropkick from Titus all but knocked him out.
The rest of VLNCE UNLTD made the save, Homicide went for Cop Killa on Lethal and was countered. Instead Homicide cannonballed to the outside. Lethal hit a superkick on King, and looked for Lethal Injection only to be caught in Ganso Bomb for the finish. VLNCE UNLTD might be unstoppable.
This was a brilliant eight man tag team match, with tons of interesting storylines being told. VLNCE UNLTD got their first big win, and Brody King was the star here. Rhett Titus was another highlight here, and everyone else played their roles perfect. Action from start to finish, and this one would have had a crowd going wild by the end. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
