Nate Diaz is convinced he fell moments short of what would have been an incredible comeback at UFC 263.
Through the first four rounds of the five-round, non-championship, non-main event bout, Leon Edwards clearly outclassed Nate Diaz. However, in the final minute of the contest, Diaz found the Brit’s chin and rattled him. Edwards managed to survive the final moments of the fight and went on to take the victory.
Nate Diaz claims to have beaten Leon Edwards “in the real world.”
Although he didn’t take the win on the scorecards, Nate considers himself to have at least earned a moral victory. During the post-event conference, Diaz shared his conclusions of what happened.
“That fight was over. In a real fight, in the real world, that fight was over. He was sleepwalking. At the end of the day, I feel like he won, or whatever, but I still think I’m the better fighter, no matter what.”
“I feel like the top of the fight is what matters in the fight, what happened at the end. It’s not hate for Leon, I congratulate him, and why wouldn’t I want to fight the best possible if I’m going to fight. I wish the outcome would have favored me, but it’s all good.”
Nate also stated that he would like to return to the octagon very soon. In fact, he talked about his plans and that of his brother Nick, who is also on the verge of returning to competition. Finally, Diaz also sent a special message for boxers who have criticized MMA fighters.
“For the fighters out there, it’s a lot easier to box without someone throwing kicks at you.”
