Prior to the releases that happened on Friday, June 25th this was a fairly normal 205 Live card. August Grey was taking on Grayson Waller, and Ariya Daivari had a set match with Ikeman Jiro. Those would both become their last matches in WWE, as Grey & Daivari would be part of the latest wave of cuts from the WWE roster. Grey would even joke that his match has become a Loser Leaves Town match. Would they impress on their way out of the company?
Ikeman Jiro Adds Another Win To His Record
After beating Tony Nese (also released) last week in his first singles match in WWE, Daivari was a natural next step. Nigel McGuniess claimed that Daivari had claimed to have found a weakness in the style of Jiro. Jiro was sporting a Corn-On-The-Cob jacket and did a cartwheel, before having his wrists grabbed and being stomped.
He’d fight free and hit some quick arm drags, before Daivari hit a shoulder tackle. Jiro popped right back up and grabbed a headlock, and was sent off the ropes into a knee to the midsection. Daivari threw Jiro into the corner, only for him to come out with a jacket assisted shotei, before getting a two count off a modified Delfin Clutch.
They’d slip to the apron where Daivari hit a falling reverse DDT, and was able to take control of the match. Jiro tried a handstand in the corner, but was kicked hard and stumbled to the mat. Daivari would look for a suplex but get launched himself. Jiro launched his jacket palm strikes to drop Daivari, before setting up an Arabian Press for a two count.
Daivari was able to dodge the Ikeman Slash, but Jiro countered the back suplex and nailed the superkick to send Daivari outside. A springboard moonsault off the second rope would take Daivari down, and inside the ring a Swanton Bomb got a two count. Daivari hit a quick running neckbreaker and hammerlock DDT, and tried for the Persian Lion Splash, only to miss and take the Ikeman Slash.
Even on such a bleak episode of 205 Live, Jiro Ikeman still managed to bring a smile to everyone’s face with a fantastic performance. Daivari has always played the heel role perfectly, and it’s hard to imagine 205 Live without him. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
August Grey Leaves Town As Grayson Waller Continues To Pick Up Wins
After eight months on 205 Live, this would unknowingly be the farewell match of Grey. He had newcomer Waller, and would be tripped up early and walked over. Waller would take a shoulder tackle before hitting another takedown and some strikes. Grey fought back with a hip toss and deep armdrag, before walking all over Waller.
Grounding Waller with an armlock, Grey would test the newcomer as he fought off the escape attempts before getting a crucifix pinfall. Waller would get free and punch Grey in the jaw, before hitting some knee strikes on the ropes. More hard strikes would follow, and when Grey went for a sunset flip it’d be nearly countered into a triangle choke.
Waller hit the leg lariat, and really settled into control as he nailed a suplex. Grey was tied up in the tree of woe, and Waller slipped outside to apply a rear chinlock. Waller took him out into a Torture Rack, dropping into a backbreaker two before hitting the the rolling slam and springboard elbow drop.
A cobra clutch would be applied, before Waller pulled Grey up and hit some shoulder tackes. Grey fought back and hit a clothesline to the outside before a dive. Waller would be on the ropes, and held himself there to sucker Grey in for a hotshot before hitting the curb stomp for the win.
If 205 Live sticks around, Grayson Waller will continue to grow into a star. He’s got the cocky charisma and in ring skills, and just needs more matches to put it all together. Grey always impressed on 205 Live, until the end. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
