Earlier in the night, we’d see a confrontation between Johnny Gargano, Austin Theory, and Pete Dunne. Oney Lorcan was there too, but he more just scowled as Dunne did the talking and snapped the fingers of Theory. Gargano & Theory demanded justice, and instead Regal set up a tag team match for tonight. They will have to dish out justice their own way, though it would have been nice if Regal took the idea of having Samoa Joe throw Dunne through a wall.
Austin Theory Is The One Armed Bandit
Gargano & Theory were still getting their gear on as they hit the ring, while Lorcan & Dunne were always ready for a fight. Lorcan & Gargano started the match, but Dunne had to make the save pretty early. Gargano was starting off hot with some quick armdrags, but a tag to the hurt hand of Theory slowed their momentum.
A big lariat from Dunne dropped Theory, and Lorcan would tag in and isolate the arm before Dunne snapped them again. Dunne would stomp away at the head and hand of Theory, before setting up a chop from Lorcan in the corner. Theory would be able to trip Lorcan up and hit a slingshot double stomp, before getting a vital tag to Gargano.
Gargano regained control, and set up Dunne for Theory to hit his signature rolling dropkick to Dunne. Tagging in Theory was a mistake however, as Dunne took advantage of a hurt Theory, attacking the hand and ribs, with Theory getting free after a dropkick. He’d take Lorcan over the top with a lariat, but end up attacked by both opponents on the outside when he should have made the tag to Gargano.
Johnny Gargano Has Refound His Old Energy
We’d cut to a commercial break, and when back, Theory would still be isolated by Dunne & Lorcan. Dunne had him bent in a surfboard stretch, before Lorcan hit a DDT. The crowd was behind Theory as he fought for the tag to Gargano. Johnny Wrestling was unleashed as he took out Lorcan & Dunne at once, before nailing a slingshot spear on Lorcan and a dive on Dunne.
Lorcan was set up in the corner by Gargano, leaving him open for the Slingshot Spanish Fly from Theory. Theory got a two count, with Dunne breaking up the pin before Gargano took him out. Lorcan would hit the running blockbuster and tag in Dunne, who went right after the arm of Theory. The arm was bent back, and Lorcan would rush in ahead of Gargano and kick into the submission.
Dunne would block a slingshot spear from Gargano, before hitting a Half & Half Suplex/Powerbomb combo with Lorcan. Theory got a tag and looked for a powerbomb but was countered by Dunne. Gargano tagged in after Theory sent Dunne to the outside, hit a suicide dive DDT on Dunne before One Final Beat to Lorcan.
This was an absolutely insane tag team match from four of the best in NXT. Considering it was an unannounced match, it had no right being this good. Theory won over the fans, and Gargano recaptured the energy that made him the best NXT has ever seen. It was a fast paced tag team match, with a blink and you’ll miss five spots pace. Simply put, this is the energy NXT matches need. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
Following the match, with the crowd happy to see the old Gargano back, they’d be shocked to see Kross lay him out. It’s clear that this is our next NXT Championship match, and if anyone can beat Kross, it’s Johnny Wrestling. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
