This past Wednesday, AEW finished up their lengthy stay at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. They’re getting back on the road, starting with AEW: Road Rager in Miami, Florida and then starting to move across the United States. This does mean that a lot of the ‘extra’ talent, people mostly seen on AEW Dark or Dark: Elevation will not be sticking around. Most of these talents worked with AEW on a by appearance basis, and can hopefully use the exposure to boost their indy bookings. However, fans do want one name to stick around, this being Fuego Del Sol.
Fuego Del Sol Has Become A Cult Favorite Of AEW Fans
For those who don’t watch Sammy Guevara’s vlog or keep up with AEW: Dark, you might not know the self-proclaimed master of the Tornado DDT. He’s been a popular name with a large section of AEW fans due to his antics and being a frequent on Dark during the pandemic, and is only getting more popular as word gets out about him. It’s almost become a running gag that he will never be signed to AEW, due to storyline beef with Cody Rhodes.
Recently, a lot more attention has been drawn towards Del Sol. He sent out a tweet saying “The vlog is going to be very bittersweet this week!”, addressing that frequent names like himself and KiLynn King will likely not be involved. Then Shawn Dean, who was recently signed to AEW, would hype up Del Sol for indie promoters, calling him a great guy and worker. In the comments of both, fans were calling for AEW to sign him.
What’s More Important Than A Connection With The Fans?
When it comes down to why AEW should sign Fuego Del Sol, it’s not hard to see. There are wrestlers who are better in the ring, better on the microphone, or have a better look than Del Sol, but there aren’t many who have such a connection with the fans of AEW. Being able to build a connection with fans is the most important aspect of professional wrestling, it’s what makes fans want to tune in every week.
Del Sol already has that connection. AEW has spent months building it up, getting Cody Rhodes into the mix and getting fans invested. It would be hard to imagine Del Sol not getting some type of deal with AEW given all that. He might never even win a match in AEW, but having a popular wrestler to fill the role of a jobber is a smart move.
