When Tyler Bate was able to beat A-Kid to claim the Heritage Cup, he became the first man in NXT UK history to have won both singles titles the brand has. Tonight, he is ready to make his first defense, and has granted the chance to the hard working Jack Starz. Starz had to work his ass off to even get to NXT UK, and has recently found his stride in the ring. He won’t take this chance lightly, as it could be his last if he does.
Tyler Bate Goes One Point Up
Round one would begin like usual with some chain wrestling. Bate got a headlock, took Starz to the mat and was countered with a headscissor hold. Starz would have his wrist locked by Bate, and was unable to break free despite his best attempts. Even when he got a bit free, Bate just took him right back down.
Bate showed why he’s got the nickname Big Strong Boy as Starz applied a standing headscissor hold and Bate was unphased and took him back down. Starz finally broke free and dodged a dropkick from Bate to get a near fall off a superman pin, before taking a strong dropkick to the jaw just before the round closed out.
Round two began with some strikes being thrown, Bate winning out and being able to take Starz down for a pinfall and get a quick pinfall to get the first fall. Starz needs to get two falls in a row now if he wants to win.
Jack Starz Tried His Best, But Came Up Short
Round three would start and Bate would apply a cravat, and hold on tight as Starz tried to struggle free. Bate would lose his grip and take some shoulder tackles before hitting a european uppercut in the corner. Starz came right back with an uppercut of his own and a Butterfly Suplex. He’d counter the Airplane Spin from Bate with one of his own before dropping Bate into an uppercut. Bate went for a cradle pin, and Starz countered to get his first fall of the match.
Round four began with Starz countering the rolling kick and looking for a Boston Crab. He’d complete the hold in the middle of the ring, and Bate would crawl to the ropes only to be pulled back to the middle. Bate used his strong legs to get free, and launched two heavy punches and a rebound lariat. Starz blocked the rolling kick but that can only do so much, and the Tyler Driver ‘97
A solid Heritage Cup Rules match, but one of the weaker examples of the style due to Starz being unlikely to win over Bate. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
After the match, Mark Coffey of Gallus came to the ring and slapped Bate before dashing away. That’s one way to make a challenge, and Bate knew and seemed to accept his next challenge. Will Coffey be able to beat Bate? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
