Ever since Christian Cage refused to side with old friend Matt Hardy in the Casino Battle Royale, Hardy has been determined to have the Hardy Family Office take him out. The latest attempt comes from The Blade, who hit a knockout punch on Christian with some brass knuckles a few weeks back. Christian is looking to stay on top of the AEW rankings, so a loss tonight would be disastrous.
The Blade Uses The Ring As A Weapon
Before Blade could even hit the ring, Christian rushed him and threw him into the ring. One mistake there is the referee couldn’t check him for brass knuckles before this one got started. Christian was punched down, before Blade pulled his shirt off and tried to choke him with it.
Blade slipped out of the ring and Christian would chase him, but The Bunny ran a distraction. Christian listened out and heard Blade running behind him, catching him with a big right hand. Back in the ring, Bunny once again got involved, but her opponent for later tonight Leyla Hirsch would take her out of the picture.
Blade would look to pull Christian off the top rope for a DDT, before Christian countered into a reverse DDT. Firing back, Blade hit a front supex to bounce Christian off the top rope. A second would follow, before Blade used the ropes to apply pressure to a knee choke. Blade applied a waist lock, and Christian would slip out.
Christian Cage Goes 8-0
Some open hand strikes would get Christian some ground, before Blade went after the eyes and ran him down with a lariat. Blade would beat down Christian in the corner and go for a spear, with Christian side stepping and sending Blade into the post. With his foe on the outside, Christian jumped over the post and crashed onto Blade.
Back in the ring, some more big open palm strikes would punish The Blade, before Christian hit the 10 punch in the corner. The springboard sunset flip got a two count, and Christian kept it moving with a diving european uppercut.
Killswitch was next, but Blade countered and sent Christian into the corner before nailing a tight powerslam. Blade would go after a turnbuckle pad, but it was a diversion. He’d go for the brass knuckles, but Christian would nail a spear and get the pinfall.
A solid effort from two of the most consistent workers in AEW, with an old school grudge match feel along with some great action. Christian has been a constant highlight in 2021, and we’re just getting started. Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** 1/4)
This win could very well put Christian Cage to the #1 rank for the men’s singles division in AEW. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
