Lelya Hirsch & The Bunny are both far from the top of the AEW Women’s division, but tonight is a chance to really establish themselves. Not in the AEW division, but instead in NWA. Tonight’s match gets the winner a shot at the historic NWA Women’s Championship, currently held by Camille. Camille has yet to show up on AEW TV like previous champions Thunder Rosa & Serena Deeb, but it might only be a matter of time.
Christian Cage Is Officially The Number One Contender
Before this match could get started, we’d catch up with Christian Cage backstage. Earlier in the night, he defeated The Blade, with Hirsch helping to remove Bunny from the mix. With a perfect 8-0 record and a high ranking, we know what is on his mind, and it’s gotta be that AEW World Championship.
Tony Schivone would be backstage, and confirm that he is the new number one contender for the AEW World Championship. This could be the match for All Out with Kenny Omega, and he’s in a great mood because of this. He didn’t come here to coast, he came back to prove he’s still a champion and is looking to stir up some shit next week, and he’s elite at this.
Leyla Hirsch Is Going To The NWA
Backed up by The Best Friends for this match, Hirsch has more than enough to keep the Hardy Family Office away. She’d go right after Bunny with some forearm strikes, before sending her running to the outside by going for a cross armbreaker. Back in the ring, Hirsch went back after the arm, forcing Bunny to force her to the ropes.
Commentary confirmed the winner will go to NWA to challenge for the belt, as Bunny would take this one outside and nailed a dropkick on the outside. The NWA World Women’s Champion was in the crowd scouting, and would be seeing The Bunny show her defensive tactics as she hit a big counter kick. Hirsch was kicked into the turnbuckle face first, but was able to come back with a superplex.
At ringside, Kris Statlander and Nyla Rose had a standoff, as Hirsch nailed a double knee charge in the ring. A knee to the head of Bunny set up the moonsault, but Bunny dodged and hit a Death Valley Driver for a two count. Hirsch countered Down The Rabbit Hole into the armbar, and Bunny had to tap out.
This match took a while to get good, and ended very soon after. A big win for Hirsch is nice, but nothing much interesting here. Match Rating: 2/5 (**)
