It’s time for Champions vs. All-Stars! Much like Survival of The Fittest, this is another Ring of Honor tradition, which is exactly what it sounds like. The ROH World, TV, Pure and Tag Team Champions will face off with some of the top non-champion stars. This puts the field as Bandido, Jonathan Gresham, Dragon Lee, Chris Dickinson and Homicide for champions, and Jay and Mark Briscoe, EC3, Flip Gordon and Josh Woods as the All-Stars. Can these odd teams hope to co-exist?
Two Absolutely Stacked Teams
On the All-Stars team, everyone basically just hates Flip Gordon but can otherwise get along. With the Champions, they’re all in clashing factions which arguably makes them the underdogs in this one. They’re all talented, but there’s a lot of bad blood here. Gresham would start this match against Woods, and they’d show why they’re the top of the Pure division. Woods would control the Pure Champion on the mat, but was unable to put him away.
They’d trade armdrags, before Dickinson tagged in- claiming things have been too nice so far. Dickinson would show that he’s a grappler too, almost taking Woods down, but being dropped instead. He’d look for the kneebar, but Woods blocked and shoved him to the mat. Woods made a tag to Mark Briscoe, before Dickinson tagged in Dragon Lee. Briscoe nailed a big jumping forearm to take control, before a hard knife edge chop in the corner.
Dragon Lee would end up in the wrong corner as The Briscoes worked alongside EC3. The powerhouse nailed a neckbreaker before Flip Gordon tagged himself in, to the displeasure of his team. A snapmare into a PK would get a two count on Dragon Lee, before being tripped up in the corner and hit with a boot. Dickinson tagged and nailed a back elbow, before Woods tagged in.
Homicide came to the aid of Dickinson with Woods, going after his eyes before calling out some old rivals in The Briscoes. A brawl would break out, but Dickinson & Woods stayed in the ring. Dickinson got to his corner to tag in Gresham, who won a battle of standing switches to hit a DDT on Woods for a two count. Gresham went right after the ankle, with Woods countering into the Beast Lock but getting countered.
Flip Gordon Wins The Day
EC3 would tag in and hit a big suplex, before tagging in Jay Briscoe. Gresham was getting isolated into the wrong corner before Flip Gordon let himself in. EC3 would end up spearing Gordon by accident, and really wasn’t too mad about this. Bandido would tag in and take advantage of a weakened Gordon to hit a twisting body press for a two count.
A massive brawl broke out between all ten men, with Dragon Lee & Bandido working together to deal with Gordon & Woods. When RUSH attacked Bandido recently, Lee didn’t get physical, and tonight they’d hit dives in tandem, some respect being shown. Mark Briscoe & Homicide got tags, and once again things broke down into chaos. Everyone ran in and nailed hard strikes, with Homicide getting the last laugh and a two count.
A big belly to belly suplex got another near fall, before Homicide set up the Gringo Killer, but Gordon would resist and hit a superkick. Flip-5 would be hit, but Homicide held on, before a Paul Orndorf style piledriver put Homicide down for good. This time around, All-Stars win.
A chaotic match from start to finish, with some great spots into the mix. This match should have been saved to be done in-front of a crowd, as with all the talent in the mix this would have been one that got them on their feet. As it stands, it was a lot of fun. Match Rating: 3.5/5 (*** 1/2)
