The winners of the Super Junior Tag League are cashing in their shot, as Suzuki-gun members, El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru look to kick off another lengthy reign as IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions. However, they will first need to find a way to overcome Bullet Club’s Cutest Tag Team once again, and El Phantasmo & Taiji Ishimori don’t lose often.
El Desperado Has His Arm Assaulted Once Again
This one would start out with a brawl, starting in the ring and quickly spilling out to the floor. Phantasmo teased a dive to the outside but trolled the fans, before dropping Kanemaru in the ring before hitting a picture perfect lionsault for a two count. Kanemaru hit a low dropkick, and Phantasmo would handstand to prevent falling, but took a second one and the leg was hurt.
Desperado would follow Kanemaru’s lead and attack the leg of Phantasmo with an indian deathlock. Kanemaru would slam his full weight onto the leg, and Phantasmo would potentially be without his Sudden Death superkick going forward. His knee would be wrapped around the ring post, before Kanemaru applied a single leg Boston Crab.
Phantasmo would be able to make a tag to a fresh Ishimori, who would attack the arm of Desperado. He attacked that limb in a big match earlier this year, and would carry over the attack here. Phantasmo had some time to recover and get a big diving back rake, before Ishimori would follow up.
Desperado was hung up in the tree of woe before taking a set of basement dropkicks, before a double Greco Roman Groin Stomp. Kanemaru tried to make the save, but would end up joining his partner. Desperado would finally get free and hit a big spinebuster, and was able to leap for a tag, but Phantasmo kept Kanemaru down. A sliding German Suplex would drop Desperado before a big shoulder breaker was nailed.
Just What Is In The Boot?!
Kanemaru would finally get the tag and have to fight off a two one on one attack from the champs, but Ishimori showed why he’s the Speed Demon and would use some misdirection. He’d finally fall to a big DDT, but only got a two count. Kanemaru looked for British Fall, but Ishimori was able to counter before setting up Bloody Cross, which Kanemaru countered into a two count.
Phantasmo was tagged back in, and worked with Ishimori for the big Codebreaker into diving Senton combo. He’d look for CR2, but Kanemaru rolled him into a Figure Four Leg Lock, with Phantasmo able to get the bottom rope. Desperado tagged in and applied Numero Dos, but the ropes were got once again.
Phantasmo would get a deep roll up with a handful of tights, but only got a two count. He’d follow up with a Pinche Loco of his own, but once again only got a two count. Ishimori hit Bloody Cross, and Phantasmo dove in with Thunder Kiss only for Kanemaru to break it up. Ishimori & Desperado would brawl to the outside, and Phantasmo would take off the loaded boot and swing away.
The referee was taken out, and Ishimori took a whiskey bottle to the side of his head, before Phantasmo took the loaded boot and Pinche Loco, ending this one with new champions! Desperado might have even broken his hand with the punch using the boot, showing that there is something in there for sure.
An incredibly solid heel vs. heel tag team match, with both teams bringing fast paced action and rule breaks. They followed up on long standing stories like the arm of Desperado and Phantasmo loaded boot, and simply tried to out cheat each other. A fun time for sure. Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** 1/4)
