Paddy Pimblett didn’t take long to start slandering big names in the UFC. Although the Englishman only made his UFC debut a few days ago, he already slammed Sean O’Malley, another rising star, dismissing O’Malley’s grappling and labelling him a “b*tch-ass pothead”. O’Malley, of course, has fired back.
On his podcast, O’Malley said:
“That’s not nice. I wonder why people just assume I have bad grappling. It’s just weird that people assume because I’m a good striker that I must be a bad grappler. Maybe he just knows, talk bad about me, it’s publicity. He obviously knows what he’s doing as far as marketing himself.”
“Suga” Sean O’Malley Fires Back at Pimblett’s “B*tch-ass Pothead” Comments
Pimblett’s initial insult was more of a backhanded compliment. Speaking to MMA On Point, he criticized O’Malley’s marijuana consumption and lack of grappling credentials.
“He’s a bit of a b*tch ass. Hurts his ankle and blames his loss on that.
He’s a little pothead. O’Malley’s stoned half the time. He’s got good strikes, he’s got good stand up, but as soon as he gets in there with a decent grappler he’s gonna get beat.
I like people who interact with the fans, without fans we wouldn’t be where we are now. The fact that he does makes me like him.”
Prior to that, O’Malley had been complimentary of Pimblett’s fighting ability.
“He ate a left hook from hell. Clean left hook. Ate it!”
A fight between O’Malley and Pimblett seems unlikely at this stage, but with the two widely touted as future stars for the UFC, perhaps it may be on the cards one day. With O’Malley fighting two weight divisions below Pimblett, the two likely won’t face one another unless they’re willing to meet in the middle at featherweight. That would require O’Malley to gain ten pounds, and Pimblett to lose ten pounds, but such feats are not unheard of.
Conor McGregor, clearly an inspiration to both fighters not only for his flashy fighting style but relentless self-promotion, has fought in three weight divisions. Perhaps one day, when both are at the peak of their powers, a featherweight match between Paddy the Paddy and Suga Sean might be on the cards.
Both fighters will be looking to step into the Octagon again soon. Pimblett might be a few wins away from a ranked opponent, but with his impressive first-round knockout debut the UFC will want him competing again and soon. As for Sean O’Malley, who claims he doesn’t care who he fights, the path to a ranked position and a title shot may be trickier.
