With NXT taking on a new form with NXT 2.0, fans who want the feel of the old NXT need to just look to NXT UK. Still unaffected by recent changes, NXT UK remains the show with the best in-ring work on a week by week basis within WWE – and tonight showed exactly why over it’s three matches. Pretty Deadly defending their championships alone make this one worth watching.
Noam Dar Outcheats Kenny Williams
Kicking off this episode was action in the Heritage Cup tournament. We’d get our first finalist between Kenny Williams & Noam Dar – two men who are not against cheating. They’d show some incredible wrestling in the opening round, but come the second round – Williams would feign an injury to roll up Dar to get on the board.
After being saved by the bell in round three, Williams would submit in round four to the Champagne Super Kneebar. Finally in round five, Samuel Sha would reveal himself under the ring to help Dar kick Williams in the head to get the win. Heel vs. heel action is always fun, and both men brought a ton of tricks to this one.
When it comes to the top prize in NXT UK however, Ilja Dragunov needs a challenger for the NXT UK Championship. The first man to step up is Nathan Frazer, followed by Rampage Brown & A-Kid. These really are three of the best in NXT UK who don’t have gold, making this a perfect lineup for a number one contenders triple threat.
Pretty Deadly Claim Defense #5
Emilia McKenzie would fight for the honour of Meiko Satomura after Stevie Turner showed disrespect. What would follow was a good but very standard match, seeing McKenzie grab the win. Nothing to write home about, but both ladies looked impressive enough in this one. We’d get a hype package afterwards for Charlie Dempsey, formerly known as Bailey Matthews. The son of William Regal is blazing his own path through WWE – and will start soon.
While tag team wrestling is rarely a priority in WWE, it is in NXT UK. The reign of Pretty Deadly has seen them go from good to excellent, as they get better with each and every match. Tonight was their fifth defense of the titles, and it was against Gallus members Mark & Joe Coffey. Pretty Deadly focused on Joe, who is more used to singles action, and was able to grind the brothers down.
A big comeback eventually came, with some incredibly close falls. In the end, the nearly telepathic levels of coordination from Pretty Deadly was able to have them get their win, in what was one of the best tag team matches in WWE this year. Seriously, seek this one out.
