By the time this one is done, Kenny Omega will know who will be challenging him for the AEW World Championship next. We have a Casino Ladder Match – and know that Jon Moxley, Lance Archer, Andrade, PAC, Matt Hardy & Orange Cassidy are in the mix. However, the Joker remains a mystery – and there’s many names it could be. Jon Moxley is ready to get hardcore tonight, Archer is a monster, Andrade can be evil, PAC is scary enough without ladders, Matt Hardy made this match what it is today, and Orange Cassidy? Meh. He doesn’t care.
Ladder Match Chaos
In a match like this, entrants don’t come out all at once – meaning the wildcard could be too late to have a chance to win. Two men start, and every two minutes someone new is in. Orange Cassidy would be one of the starters, alongside an old rival in PAC. They met in the main event of a PPV alongside Kenny Omega – and almost beat him.
PAC would hold OC’s hands in a loving embrace – stopping him from pocket time. He’d ride the back of OC after a takedown, before hitting a snappy tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. OC stopped PAC from getting a ladder in, and took a brainbuster as Andrade El Idolo hit the ring.
PAC hit a dropkick through the ropes, before setting up a ladder. Andrade springboarded to the middle of the ring onto the ladder, and hit the Sunset Flip Bomb – sending PAC down hard. Wanting to destroy PAC more than win, he’d set up a big double knee strike and get caught by OC with a head scissor takedown.
Matt Hardy was out next – and hit the Side Effect before weaponizing a ladder. He’d start climbing, but OC pulled him down. Hardy was used as a launch pad for a DDT on Andrade, and Archer was out next. Archer would instantly start getting some damage in, almost hitting the Blackout on PAC.
And The Joker Is…
Hardy would be dropped by a Swinging Sidewalk Slam – before Archer set up a ladder across from another ladder and ropes – hitting a splash on OC. However, he wouldn’t climb – wanting to fight the final announced man tonight in Jon Moxley. They’d meet in the crowd for a brawl, Moxley winning out in a game of chair toss. Archer however wanted to win Ladder Toss, but OC hit the Orange Punch.
Moxley would hit a shotgun dropkick, but it’s Joker time. HANGMAN PAGE IS BACK! A massive ovation for the anxious millennial cowboy himself, and he’d be right after Moxley. Lariat over the top sent Moxley out, OC was thrown into a ladder, Andrade took a springboard lariat, but PAC got him with a chair. These two go way back before even the first Double or Nothing.
Page would be set up on a table, and Andrade had to stop a Black Arrow from the top of a ladder. Andrade fell down through a ladder – and a Deadeye off the top of the ladder would take PAC out. Moxley was back, and hit the snap Paradigm Shift. OC would stop him, but Hardy took him outside for a leg drop through a table.
Archer took out Moxley, and Buckshot Lariat dropped Archer. A chair to the back of Page would stun him, but he’d be able to fend off Moxley on top of the ladder, and Page would grab the chip and is back on track to dethrone Kenny Omega.
One of the best ladder matches yet for AEW, almost as good as Lucha Bros & Young Bucks. Once all the pieces were in place with the hype of a Hangman Page return this was excellent. Match Rating: 4.5/5 (**** 1/2)
