The Dark Order is more of a family than a wrestling faction sometimes. If you insult one of them, you insult all of them – and you don’t want to speak ill of the group because of this. Even if you’re the AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker, it’s a bad idea. Anna Jay stood up for her family after Baker ran down the Dark Order verbally, and tonight has a non-title match with the champion.
Jay would hit the ring without any backing from Dark Order, but you know they are never far. Baker wouldn’t keep Reba & Hayter in the backstage area however, and they are what kept her champion when Ruby Soho was close. If they get involved, Tay Conti will likely be there in record time.
Anna Jay Is Ready To Hang With The Champion
They would lock up to start, and Baker showed her power and skill as she took Jay down and looked for the Lockjaw. Jay slipped out of the way, and nearly got the Queenslayer applied – but was unable to catch the champion. Baker would focus on the previously injured shoulder of Jay, and we would see her roll through on the mat and get the wrist of Baker.
She’d kick the champ in the face, before another from the apron and a slingshot armdrag. A flatliner into the Koji Clutch was started by the ropes, which Baker took advantage of. Powering Jay into the corner, she’d lay in some forearm strikes as we went to a commercial break. Even on FiteTV, there was no feed of the match unfortunately.
Never Count Britt Baker Out
Coming back from that break, Baker was still in control. Jay was throwing heavy strikes to get back into this, but would fall to a Slingblade and twisting neckbreaker for a two count. Rebel would give the glove to Baker, signaling the Lockjaw is coming soon. Baker threw some forearm strikes, but was caught with a DDT and low dropkick for a two count.
Jay looked for Queen Slayer once again, but Baker got the ropes. Baker would look to roll Jay up, and they’d battle for control of the pin before Queen Slayer was applied. Hayter ran a distraction and Baker would get free, but after kicking Hayter off the apron, Jay simply reapplied the hold. Baker used the corner to get free, nailed a superkick and applied Lockjaw for the win.
A technically sound match from two of the best in the AEW Women’s division, who also are two of the rising stars of the division. Match Rating: 3/5 (***)
After the match, Baker kept the beating coming and Conti made the save. Baker was run off, and with Conti ranked #1 – she’s next in line. While Jay couldn’t get a win over the AEW World Women’s Champion tonight, could you see Jay being a threat in the TBS Championship tournament?
