Alec Baldwin’s life could be about to get worse following his prop gun shooting incident that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.
Could Alec Baldwin Go To Jail After Shooting and Killing ‘Rust’ Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins In Deadly Accident?
According to a legal expert, there is always a possibility that Alec could be charged with a crime. Matthew Nash, who happens to be an attorney and tutor at the University of Law, has stated that manslaughter could be a charge.
In an interview with Newsweek, he said: “It would appear that under New Mexico law, Alec Baldwin could be guilty of involuntary manslaughter, which is a killing that takes place without due caution and circumspection.”
This would be a harsh verdict, given that checking the safety of a gun would be the last thing that an actor could be expected to do. After all, there are members on the set who would specialise in such a thing.
And yet, given the tragedy that had occurred, there is a feeling that someone needs to be held accountable. Laying the blame on the director would be difficult given that he was injured too, even though he was in charge of the film.
If Alec were to be convicted, then the consequences might be severe. Mathew added: “The maximum penalty under New Mexico law would be a fine of $5,000 or an 18-month prison sentence.”
Even if a prison sentence did not occur, Alec’s career would suffer anyway. This is for the following reason: He cannot be expected to work due to the mass trauma that he will be feeling.
Naturally, if he were to take time off but then be punished for doing such an act, there is a danger that he would never be the same actor.
Not only that, if he were to be charged, then Alec would have a huge struggle in being able to face the scrutiny that would be coming his way. After all, not all the reaction on social media has been kind to him.
It is too early to speculate on who was responsible, and in any event, this is not going to help Alec. The best thing he can do is focus on making sure that his mental health is fine.
