Jim Bob Duggar has revealed that he intends to run for the Arkansas state Senate district as a way to support his state following years of living there.

Jim, who is best known for being on the hit show Counting On, does have a history of being within the political sphere. He had previously served the same district for four years before being beaten to the post in 2002 by Bill Pritchard.
And with the ‘Counting On’ show currently off-air and no certainty over whether it will return, Jim feels it is the right time to throw his hat into the ring.
In an official statement, Jim spoke on how he was delighted to make a run. He said: “I am honoured to announce my candidacy for Arkansas State Senate District 7.
“It’s where we’ve built a life centred around our faith, family and friends… It’s important to us to give back and to help others in every way we can.”
Although this is clearly big news, Jim’s political ambitions have naturally been overshadowed by other family matters. His son Josh Duggar was recently arrested on the grounds of charges relating to child pornography.
This was one of the reasons why ‘Counting On’ was taken off the air, as the producers felt that it was inappropriate and unrealistic for the family to film, with this scandal going on in the background.
As the trial is set to go ahead on November 30th 2021, the Duggar family will have plenty to keep themselves occupied with. And if Josh is to be convicted, he could get up to 20 years in jail and a fine of up to $250,000.
And yet, Jim is not letting that cloud his campaign. He added: “Now more than ever, we need a bold voice that is pro-family, pro-business, pro-gun and pro-life. It’s time for conservatives to demand courageous leadership.”
Time will tell whether Jim does manage to win the campaign, but in the meantime, he will want to avoid the controversy surrounding his son in order to win his campaign. That is going to be harder than he thinks, though.
