At NXT Takeover 36, we saw the true end of The Undisputed Era. It was the final nail in the coffin of the already iconic faction who truly ran the NXT Brand – as Kyle O’Reilly & Adam Cole went to war in a two out of three falls match. This would be the final match of Adam Cole in WWE, with fans unclear where his next move would be. While this meant Kyle O’Reilly got the win – it also meant that he got some major fan backlash.
Adam Cole Hoped To Have Kyle O’Reilly Take His Main Event Spot
The only reason Adam Cole stuck around in WWE was to put O’Reilly over as a top star. They are long time friends – and Cole was willing to delay any future plans to ensure their storyline hit the end. He could have taken his main event spot, and had the skills to make this work. Normally this would have been a great thing, but nothing seemed to work out as planned.
Since getting the win at NXT Takeover 36 – Kyle O’Reilly hasn’t done much. He’s failed to find much of a role in NXT 2.0, mainly feuding with Pete Dunne and babysitting Von Wagner – who took his place in a match to determine a new NXT Champion. Fans have cooled off on O’Reilly in a big way thanks to him beating Adam Cole, who remained the fan favorite until the final moments of his NXT run.
Cole Is Doing Fine, As Is The Rest Of Undisputed Era
Meanwhile, Adam Cole was completely fine. He would join The Elite in AEW, and instantly made an impact at All Out 2021. The Superkliq would be reunited, and Cole has so far been undefeated there – with potential to become one of the future AEW World Champions. Cole is instantly one of the most popular names in the company, with the hype generated by his excellent run with NXT paying off in a big way.
Bobby Fish has also joined AEW, with him being the longtime tag team partner of O’Reilly as reDRagon. The only one who has remained in a good standing in AEW was Roderick Strong, as Diamond Mine brought him the NXT Cruiserweight Championship.
