Seeing as he was drafted to Smackdown Live, NXT needs to figure out what to do about Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott as NXT North American Champion. He hasn’t defended the belt yet, but tonight Santos Escobar gets his shot. The leader of Legado Del Fantasma has had his goons take out B-Fab & Top Dolla, leaving Swerve to fight on his own. Will this be the night where Escobar finally captures gold again?
Legado Del Fantasma Has Stacked The Deck In The Favor Of Santos Escobar
Swerve might be alone, but he’s someone who you don’t want to piss off- and Legado Del Fantasma did exactly that. He intends to take that NXT North American Championship to Smackdown Live, but Santos Escobar has done everything right so far. Swerve had a violent look in his eyes, but Escobar is hungry – and even put his faction to the back to make this a fair fight.
He’d take a shot before the bell from Swerve, who was savage and ready to fight early. Swerve would hit a fosbury flop over the top rope, before exposing some steel on the turnbuckle. He’d nail a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for the two count, before a running knee strike. Escobar would get Swerve outside, and nail the Arrow from the Depths of Hell to send Swerve over the announce table.
Back in the ring, Escobar went for a liontamer, but Swerve got the ropes. He’d apply a surfboard stretch, before hitting a running PK and paying tribute to Eddie Guerrero with a classic taunt. Swerve would rally up to his feet, and hit a huge lariat to set up the diving uppercut to the neck. The rolling flatliner was countered by Escobar, and the crowd was on fire.
Isaiah “Swerve” Scott Steals The Win With Help Of Carmelo Hayes
Escobar nailing the running knee strike, before setting up the frankensteiner. Swerve crashed into the middle of the ring, and Escobar soared in with a picture perfect frog splash for a two count. He’d kick Swerve out of the ring, but get caught with a death valley driver on the apron before a 450 Splash was attempted in the ring.
Escobar got the knees up and turned this into a two count. Legado Del Fantasma rushed the ring, but Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams evened the odds on the outside. Escobar would hit the exposed steel – and Swerve nailed the JML Driver for the win.
This was the best showing of Swerve in NXT yet, fitting that he was possibly his last. If he can bring this to the main roster, he’ll be a huge star. This matched their match at NXT Takeover 31 over the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, and paid off this feud in a big way. The best match on NXT 2.0 so far. Match Rating: 4.25/5 (**** 1/4)
However, Hayes wasn’t here to just help. He’s got his Breakout title shot, and he’s cashing in. Swerve was laid out, and Hayes was ready to pick the bones and become a champion. One springboard lariat, and Swerve kicked out. Hayes would take a slap to the face, and was shook. He expected to walk in and stomp out Swerve, and a pump kick did some damage, before a leg drop to back of the head to become NXT North American Champion.
