FTR are now living lucha libre legends as they hold the AAA Tag Team Championships. Ending the 853 day reign of The Lucha Brothers will give you that status. However tonight, FTR look to show exactly why they call themselves legends, as they issue an open challenge to any team of luchadors with the balls to face them in the ring.
There is one exception though – NO LUCHA BROTHERS ALLOWED! On Wrestling Observer Live, we learned that Aerostar & Samuray del Sol have stepped up. Aerostar is best known for his time on Lucha Underground, while Samuray Del Sol had a long run as Kalisto within WWE.
But First, The Superkliq Needed To Get Some Receipts
Before this match, while The Superkliq would be interviewed by Alex Marvez about their plans for Full Gear? We’d see Christian Cage step up after being taken out weeks ago. They offered to kick his ass three on one, but Luchasarus was ready to help. This brawl started fast and hard, with Jungle Boy returning as well – after being thrown off the stage a few weeks back.
Christian would take Matt Jackson and look to hit the Killswitch onto a steel grate, but Nick Jackson made the save. Cole would crawl out of the ramp, having been mauled by Luchasarus. Matt was sent down the ramp by a hurricanrana from Jungle Boy, and Cole had Nick chokeslammed onto his back. Snare Trap was applied, and The Superkliq has seen better days. Christian Cage grabbed some steel chairs, and hit a classic move on Cole in the one more con-chairto. A message was sent here, and the Superkliq might not make it to Full Gear.
FTR Prove They Are Lucha Libre Legends
Del Sol would start with Wheeler, able to fly out of the way of any strikes that were thrown his way. A headscissor took Wheeler down, and a dropkick sent him outside the ring. Aerostar would get the tag from Del Sol, and flip right in and around the ring – before Harwood flipped him off and beat him into the corner.
Harwood would throw Aerostar into the corner and he’d come down hard with a spinning crossbody. Del Sol & Aerostar nailed dives to the outside, before a Lucha chant was started. Aerostar wanted a double hurricanrana, but instead was slammed off the ropes. Tully Blanchard & Harwood would get some blows in while Wheeler would distract the referee. Aerostar was close to a tag, but Harwood kept the isolation intact.
However, Aerostar dodged a basement dropkick, Harwood meeting the steel pole crotch first. He’d dive onto Harwood, and then onto Wheeler – before Del Sol got the tag and made the comeback. Aerostar would work with Del Sol to hit a senton. Both members of FTR were rolled up for two counts, Del Sol hit the Sliced Bread – and Aerostar hit a splash for a two count. Harwood nailed a brainbuster on the floor to take Del Sol out, and back in the ring Wheeler blocked a Victory Roll, grabbed the rope for leverage and got the pin.
FTR work best against teams with a different style, and we’d see this here tonight. Their smashmouth wrasslin’ style is a great foil for Lucha Libre, as shown here in this one. There were some sloppy moments from both teams, but overall brought a fun and fast paced fight. Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** 1/4)
