Ring Of Honor is in uncertain times right now. They’re building towards Final Battle 2021, and after that – it will be a few months without anything new. All their contracted talents were released, and those like Jay Lethal have already found new homes? Fans wonder who will be left if they do run new shows in 2022. Well, one name can be relied upon – and that is former ROH Pure Champion, Jonathan Gresham.
Jonathan Gresham Will Remain Loyal To Ring of Honor
While speaking with Fightful about Ring of Honor and his new company, Gresham would speak about when he found out the bad news.
“I didn’t know. I got a phone call from a close buddy maybe 30 minutes before we had the Zoom call with the whole roster and they said, ‘Gresh, I don’t think this is going to be a good call.’ We had a discussion about that and it ended up being true, it wasn’t a good call. I didn’t have a heads up besides the one call from my buddy. Everyone who knows anything about me knows that I am on this boat until it sinks. My contract will expire in December, but even with no contract, I am loyal to Ring of Honor until the end.”
At Final Battle 2021, Gresham will face ROH World Champion Bandido in the main event, which could well be the final match in the history of Ring of Honor. If they’re going out with a main event like that, they won’t have gone out with a whimper.
Terminus Is Coming
However, Gresham will likely be keeping the spirit of Ring of Honor alive one way or another. He’s starting up a fresh new company known as Terminus. We can expect a grappling heavy approach, if not a whole company of Pure Wrestling style matches. Beyond Gresham & Baron Black, the founders of the company – AEW star Daniel Garcia has been announced for their first show.
It’s possible that Terminus will become a spiritual successor to Ring of Honor, or at least the vision Gresham had for the company. With him being seemingly loyal to ROH, there’s a real chance the top belt is put on him at Final Battle. Do you see Gresham being the ROH World Champion as they head into uncertain times?
