Out of all the releases from WWE today, Keith Lee stands out as the most surprising. Here is a man who can do it all in professional wrestling, having speed, skill, power and charisma. However, that didn’t stop them from cutting him due to once again “budget cuts”, which has now added up to releasing a grand total of 71 wrestlers in 2021. However, with his release comes many truths that will be revealed by The Limitless One, including the origin of his latest nickname.
Keith Lee Was Not Behind The Bearcat Nickname
During his latest appearances on WWE TV, Keith Lee was known as Keith “Bearcat” Lee. This was a nickname that many felt was a callback to Bearcat Wright, one of the first black men to become a near universally loved babyface in professional wrestling, all the way back in the 1950’s when racial tensions were perhaps more tense than ever. It was also assumed that Keith Lee was the one who came up with the nickname, much like how Steve Austin came up with Stone Cold.
This is not the case, at all. Despite being widely accepted as truth for months now, Keith Lee has finally set this record straight. On an instagram post speaking about his release, a fan would comment that the Bearcat nickname was the idea of Keith Lee, until the man himself would shut that rumor down – saying the following. “No. It was not. Lol.”
What Else Could Lee Be Ready To Share With Fans?
While this on it’s own is not earth shattering news, it’s just the first of many tidbits that will come out from Keith Lee. He was kept away from TV for a lengthy span this year, while constantly taking to Twitter saying he would be back in due time. While he released a lengthy statement saying it was due to complications after being infected by the COVID-19 virus, the statement was likely heavily monitored by WWE.
However, now we will soon hear the full story from Keith Lee himself. His non-compete clause will be anywhere between 30 and 90 days, depending on if WWE updated it after bringing him up from their NXT brand. If it’s 30 days, expect to see him show up somewhere after December 4th, 2021. But if it was 90 days, the full truth might have to wait until after February 2nd, 2022.
