When WWE started cutting talent from their roster on November 4th, 2021 – fans were worried for their favorite names. However as the dust settles, it seems like one name was glossed over – that being Timothy Thatcher. He fits the bill of other releases like Oney Lorcan, being a hard hitting wrestler who doesn’t exactly seem to fit what WWE is going for with NXt 2.0, or the main roster shows like Smackdown or Monday Night RAW. Thatcher has also been off TV for a while now, and his partnership with Ciampa ended as Ciampa once again claimed the NXT Championship. What has happened to Timothy Thatcher in WWE?
Timothy Thatcher Could Be A Coach In The WWE Performance Center
While he hasn’t been seen on TV since being written off from an attack by Pete Dunne & Ridge Holland – Thatcher has been a busy man in WWE. A video from the WWE tryouts in Las Vegas back in August showcased expected names alongside WWE hopefuls. William Regal, Triple H, Matt Bloom, Samoa Joe, and Robbie Brookside were all there- but so was Timothy Thatcher.
While his on-screen character was first that of a sadistic catch wrestling coach, that could be the case now for him in WWE, but without the sadistic part. Thatcher had a knack for making his grappling look as real and dangerous as possible, with a lot of submission knowledge to pass on. While WWE doesn’t always want his hard hitting style – it’s hard to deny that when the wrestling looks real, people watch more closely.
Having someone like Thatcher as both a capable in-ring worker who can bring out the best in every single opponent he locks up with, and as someone to teach the next generation of big men how to apply a deadly looking armbar? That’s someone with a lot of value to your company. Value that other names might have lacked. So while we might not see much of Thatcher in the ring for WWE going forward, it’s very possible his influence could be felt for years to come.
