This past week on AEW Dynamite, we saw two luchadors make their debuts. Samuray Del Sol & Aerostar took on FTR for the AAA Tag Team Championships in a losing effort. While Aerostar looked sloppy after a botched dive to the outside, Samuray Del Sol looked right at home. Years of TV practice with WWE as Kalisto had him ready for the moment, but a mistake in a tweet might have ruined any chances he had in signing with the company.
Samuray Del Sol Tries To Channel Brodie Lee, Chris Jericho & Amanda Huber Shut Him Down After Typo
Following his tag team match, Samuray Del Sol would take to Twitter to say a few words about his debut. He would invoke Brodie Lee, a beloved figure in the AEW locker room, and someone who he worked alongside in WWE many times. The tweet was as followed.
“Prayed and talked to John (Brodie Lee) before my match. Thank you for showing me your home AEW and giving me the strength and energy I need it today. forever your in my heart Hermano.”
It seems innocent enough, but Chris Jericho was quick to point out that the name of Brodie Lee was misspelled, being Jon Huber and not John. This would lead to Amanda Huber supporting Jericho, and would note that he was not a family friend. As published in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, they haven’t heard from him in years.
Not A Way To Gain Friends Backstage In A New Promotion
Some were quick to bring up Miro misspelling Brodie Lee’s ringname when speaking about him in the past – using Brody instead. Amanda would clear this up as well, stating that Miro has been someone who constantly checked in on the condition of her husband, as well as her and the kids constantly. Adding in that Brodie Lee was just the ringname, and it’s clear these aren’t the same.
Instead, this just comes off as a poor attempt for Samuray Del Sol to earn some goodwill with the fans of AEW, while not taking the time to get his information straight. Considering how important Brodie Lee is to AEW and it’s fans, and with Amanda Huber working behind the scenes with AEW these days? It was not a smart move, and one that could cost Samuray Del Sol future bookings with the promotion.
