While facing over a hundred lawsuits as a result of the Astroworld Festival tragedy, Travis Scott is now taking a sponsorship hit as Nike has decided to postpone his Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack shoe.
Nike Holds Off on Travis Scott’s Shoe Release
Originally, the sneakers had a December 16 street date. However, Nike announced that it would hold off on the release because of the aftermath of the November 5 tragedy.
“Out of respect for everyone impacted by the tragic events at the Astroworld Festival, we are postponing the launch of the Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack.”
On the Nike site for the Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack, the shoes are showcased but clicking on them leads to an Error 404 page. It appears that the shoe has also been pulled from eBay listings.
The decision comes following news of the youngest Astroworld Festival death of 9-year-old Ezra Blount.
Nike joins the Houston Rockets and Fortnite in making space between their brands and Scott. First, it was “Travis Scott Night” being dropped in favor of a moment of silence followed by the Houston rapper’s emote being dropped from the popular battle royale game.
Expectedly, Nike hasn’t put a new date on the release of the sneaker. It’s up in the air at the moment as it appears that brands associated with Scott are both waiting to see how Scott’s situation shakes out and just out of respect.
This is another of many issues stemming from this event alone. Recently, it was reported that footage of a fan dancing on a medical truck came out. What amplified things was the fan’s reaction to the outrage. There are also the aforementioned one-hundred-plus lawsuits filed by concertgoers.
