On November 4, the host of Australia’s Channel 7 show Weekend Sunrise left Sydney for London, a trip clocking in at 10,000 miles. The host, Matthew Doran even posted his team landing in London for the interview with Adele on his Instagram the day before.
Adele Channel 7 Interview Axed by Sony
Channel 7 had scored Australia’s only interview with Adele about her new album 30 via a deal with Sony for $725,000—or around $1 million Australian. Also included for use of footage from the Oprah Winfrey interview and air One Night Only.
TV Host Flew 10,000 Miles to London for Adele Interview But Fumbles It On Missed Email Link
The interview was to run for 20 minutes but the award-winning singer caught on to something. Apparently, he was unable to give an opinion on the album during said interview.
According to The Daily Telegraph, the award-winning singer eventually asked Doran if he had listened to the album. The show host admitted that he hadn’t regardless, the interview went from 20 to almost 30 minutes.
As a result, Sony froze the release of the interview. In speaking with The Australian, Matthew Doran said that he missed the email with the preview album link during his flight to London.
So, he headed into the interview about 30 without the relevant homework and ended up with a pop quiz, so to speak. On social media, it has been pointed out that the flight was over 20 hours—schedules show anywhere from 23 hours to 44 hours.
His trip was obviously on the lower end of the flight times but regardless fans and journalists feel that he had time to listen to the album. Doran states that when he checked, he’d received an email with the link after he’d landed in London.
In his interview with The Australian, Doran would clear up news that he’d been suspended by Channel 7 for the costly fumble. While he was off the air for a week, he said that the network hadn’t suspended him at all.
Released November 19, 30 marks both Adele’s fourth album overall and her first album in six years following 25. The tracks “All Night Parking” and “Can I Get It” are my recommendations while the first single “Easy on Me” has gotten acclaim in the music press.
