Did Colby Covington have a list of names he needed to diss at the UFC 268 press conference? It certainly seems that way, as he rattled off fighter after fighter, explaining precisely why they aren’t good enough for him.
First was Khamzat Chimaev, one of the UFC’s hottest new fighters, who is gunning for top spot in the welterweight division. “You know Chimaev, he’s got to do a lot more work than get three fights in the UFC.
Covington on Khamzat: “He Was Ready to Retire off the Common Cold!”
You guys hype these guys up real quick but let’s not forget he was put down by the common cold. He was ready to retire off the common cold.
That’s a 99.9 percent survival rate to beat the common cold and Chimaev was ready to give it up and retire. He doesn’t want to fight me. He’s got a way less chance than 99.9 percent chance against me.”
Khamzat Chimaev actually endured a bout with COVID-19, which caused him to miss a few months. Colby Covington was careful not to disrespect the dead, of which the US now couts over 750,000 thanks to the global pandemic, while maintaining his steadfast disrespect for the living.
Although he said anyone losing their life was a “terrible tragedy”, Colby Covington, who is not a doctor, had some health advice for the press.
“We all know that healthy people, this common cold doesn’t affect healthy people. As long as you’re healthy out there, you’re going to be alright.”
Of course, by definition, having a cold means you’re not exactly healthy, but this is Colby we’re talking about. Precision of language and scientific accuracy are not his strong points.
Trash talk, however, is. And Colby not only trashed his fellow welterweights, but claimed that he would happily move into either lightweight or middleweight divisions just to take on their champions, too. “Absolutely, I see both weight classes as very open for me.
The guy at middleweight [Israel Adesanya] can’t wrestle. He got taken down by a guy that’s never wrestled in his life [in Jan Blachowicz]. In the lower weight class, that guy [Charles Oliveira is] a scrub, too.
I’d love to get my hands on Louisiana swamp trash Dustin [Poirier]. He talked all that sh*t to the media, saying it’s on site with me. Guess what, Dustin? You name the site. Let’s do it. Bring that little jezebel of a wife and that little prop you call as a kid.”
