When it comes to wrestlers from the 2000’s who gained a lot of hype for their incredible in-ring work – Davey Richards is among the best. He’s up there with the likes of CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, AJ Styles and more. However with his biggest runs being in Ring of Honor & Impact Wrestling have meant he doesn’t get the respect he demands – but this was because he didn’t accept the offered contracts from WWE or AEW.
Davey Richards Doesn’t Like TV Wrestling
While speaking with AEW’s Vickie Guerrero on the EXCUSE ME! Podcast, Davey Richards would reveal that he’s had the chance to join both major companies in the past. He’d state the following on the topic.
“I’ve been offered a WWE contract three times now, and AEW reached out too. I’m a father, so being on the road that much is difficult for me. Plus for me, I found out in my time in Impact, which was great, they treated me very well, that I hate TV wrestling.
What I mean by that is I hate wrestling for five minutes. I don’t like wrestling for anything less than 15 minutes. It’s just not me. It’s not my style. There’s nothing wrong with people who do it and do it very well.
Obviously, that’s where the money is. In all the respect in the world, that’s just not me. I like to get in there and tell the stories and things like that.”
Don’t Expect American Wolves In The AEW Tag Team Division
Right now, you can catch Richards working various indies, as well as for Major League Wrestling. He was retired for about four years, where he finished up school to become a paramedic. It’s a shame that he isn’t interested in working with AEW, but understandable at the same time.
Richards is a man who puts a lot of pride into his style of wrestling, and his matches as ROH World Champion showed this perfectly – but you really can’t condense his style for TV performances. While we can never be sure that him & Eddie Edwards won’t show up and join the AEW Tag Team division, it’s safe to assume that’s a dream.
