CM Punk has been on a roll since returning to the ring for AEW. Tonight, he adds Lee Moriarty to the list. A legend of the indies vs. someone who was viewed as the future of the indies. The story writes itself, no weeks of build needed – just ring the bell and watch them put on a clinic.
MJF Insults CM Punk For Taking So Long To Take Out Lee Moriarty
Before the match, MJF would hit the commentary booth to throw more quick blows at ‘PG Punk’. In the ring, Moriarty would grab a wrist lock, with Punk able to counter out. MJF called Punk weak for having issues grappling with a glorfied rookie. Next week, he also claims he will once again win the Dynamite Diamond Ring battle royale match. Punk would take an armdrag and shoulder tackle, but refused to stay down.
He’d get Moriarty into the corner, as MJF claimed he’s won matches against the likes of Moriarty in 5 seconds. Punk nailed the diving lariat, before catching Moriarty with a scoop slam. Moriarty kept on pushing, catching Punk with a big crossbody for a two count.
A big lariat from Moriarty and a big belly to belly suplex would get him as close as anyone else to beating CM Punk in AEW. Applying the omoplata, he’d seek to tap Punk out. Punk would be able to roll his way free, and caught Moriarty on the top rope with a frankensteiner only to have it blocked into a sunset flip! Several pinfall counters later, Punk would get back to his feet and nailed a roundhouse kick.
This one was surpassing expectations, but it might be time to say goodnight. Punk would go for Pepsi Twist, but Moriarty dodged and nailed his own before a driver for a two count. Moriarty looked for a falcon arrow, and Punk blocked into GTS for the win. 8-0 in AEW.
Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
MJF would leave commentary with a microphone, giving everyone a view of his awful hanukkah suit. It takes a lot of balls to claim to be the best in the world, then struggle to beat names like QT Marshall & Lee Moriarty. Only thing he’s the best at now is trying to get in the pants of Britt Baker. MJF was finally getting under the skin of Punk, who grabbed a microphone of his own.
Punk claimed MJF was wearing Larry David’s pajamas, and should shut up. Both of them should shut up actually and get into the ring. MJF wouldn’t want to get into the ring tonight. Next week he will win the Dynamite Dozen Battle Royale, showing Punk what a real wrestler looks like. Better then Piper in Portland, Bret in Canada, and Punk in Chicago. Fans will love him in New York, even if he’s better than them – and they know it.
Adam Cole Seeks To Send A Message To Orange Cassidy
For the next match, Adam Cole will be on commentary… but needed to do his full entrance first. Orange Cassidy was soon behind, the latest man to have an issue with Cole. Just a look from OC would be enough to get Cole off commentary, before OC stuck his hands in pockets.
The Young Bucks would creep out, but were caught along the way. OC hit some deadly low kicks, before a massive low blow from Cole. Young Bucks would mock him before a proper double superkick. BTE Trigger was next, but Chuck Taylor & Wheeler Yuta would make the save.
We’d finally get to the next match, and it’s Wardlow time. This won’t be long. AC Adams was the opponent. He’d run Adams down with a lariat before starting the powerbomb massacre. Five later, and Adams was out for the pin. Shawn Spears broke a chair over Adams, and raised his hand.
When will CM Punk finally meet MJF in the ring? Is Wardlow getting sick of Shawn Spears & MJF? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
