It’s a sad day in professional wrestling whenever someone is lost – especially when they’re gone before their time. This is sadly the case with Jimmy Rave (real name James Michael Guffey), who has left us at just 39 years old. Rave is best known for his time in Ring of Honor & Impact Wrestling, notably for incorporating a Guitar Hero guitar into his gimmick.
Jimmy Rave Was Forced Into Retirement Back In 2020
It was not an easy final two years for Jimmy Rave either. In 2020, he would have his left arm amputated due to an infection that got out of hand. This forced him into an early retirement, ending a 21 year long career. Following this, he would contract COVID-19, which he would successfully fight off.
In 2021, he would then proceed to lose both of his legs after getting an MRSA infection. This was just two months ago, and a GoFundMe had been running since 2020 as fans tried to help out with the mountain of medical bills. It currently sits at $47,361 USD raised of $100,000 goal.
Honored By Ring of Honor & Impact Wrestling
Ring of Honor would honor Rave on their website, fitting as the bulk of his career was spent in ROH. They would have the following to say.
“Ring of Honor is saddened to learn that Jimmy Rave (James Guffey) has died. He was 39. Rave was a mainstay in ROH from 2003 to 2007. He returned to ROH in 2009 and also made appearances in 2011 and 2013. Rave was a member of ROH factions The Embassy and S.C.U.M. He also wrestled for New Japan Pro Wrestling, TNA and numerous independent promotions. Rave competed in NJPW’s prestigious Best of the Super Juniors in 2008.
Impact Wrestling would comment with the following.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of James Guffey, otherwise known as Jimmy Rave. We offer our sincere condolences to his family & friends during this difficult time. Rave made his IMPACT debut in 2002 during The Asylum Years & became a mainstay of the X-Division.”
