Right now, AEW is taping it’s next month or so of content for AEW Dark. Unlike Dark: Elevation, AEW Dark is batch taped at Universal Studios in Florida. This has given the show a unique vibe over recent months, and has made it the third best AEW weekly show. These latest tapings had one major debut. The reigning Ring of Honor Pure Champion Josh Woods was in the house to get some grappling in.
Josh Woods Proved Himself A Star In Ring Of Honor Despite WWE Roots
Originally having gotten his start at the WWE Performance Center, Josh Woods would be able to better find his style in Ring of Honor. After some time in their Future of Honor program, he formed a popular tag team with Silas Young – known as Two Men, One Tag. Together they fought their way all the way to a shot at the ROH World Tag Team Championships, before Woods got a chance to go solo during the ROH Pure Division tournament.
A standout amateur wrestler, Woods took to Pure Rules perfectly. He was nearly unstoppable on his way to dethroning Jonthan Gresham to become the champion of the Pure division. He will defend the belt at Final Battle against Brian Johnson. That match could be the final time the belt is ever defended. Woods has defended it outside of ROH however.
A Potentially Huge Get For AEW
However, on AEW Dark – he was without the belt, and stepped across the ring for an impressive match with member of The Pinnacle, Shawn Spears. This got a lot of fans excited, as Woods is one of the top young stars that became free agents with the collapse of Ring of Honor.
If he is signed to a contract? He could be a foundational member of the AEW roster over the next five to eight years. At 32 years old, he’s just about to hit his prime as a professional wrestler. Woods is already a complete package to some fans. Woods wrestles a great heavyweight style, with a great mix of strikes, submissions and suplexes. He does great making things feel legit. This is something fans enjoy seeing in matches.
Speaking of matches, the prospect of Woods locking up with the likes of Wardlow, Bryan Danielson, Daniel Garcia, Sammy Guevara, Jungle Boy and more all sound amazing on paper. Do you think Josh Woods will sign with All Elite Wrestling? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
